Capture risk audits, IsoMetrxi, and other safety data in the appropriate database so as to centralise and improve accessibility of data for informed decision-making.

Capture and collate all gathered all Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) related data and information through the use of a comprehensive and well-organised data collection and collation process, to provide a solid foundation for informed decision-making.
Maintain and update all SHE related data and information within the database, to ensure the accuracy and reliability of safety, health, and environment information.
Provide daily, weekly and monthly reports to stakeholders regarding SHE data to enable them to make data-driven decisions and enhance safety and compliance within the mine.
Provide support in the collection and recording of safety incidents, near misses, and accidents, by participating in site visits/inspections, to mitigate any potential safety risks.
Provide support incident investigations by gathering information and compiling incident reports, to ensure all incidents are documented and captured into the databases and/or spreadsheets, maintaining detailed records of safety incidents, environmental assessments, health-related information, and compliance documentation.
Generate ad hoc reports as and when required by key stakeholders, to meet the specific information needs of stakeholders as they arise.
Manage and analyse data by utilising SHE systems for data management, leading to streamlined processes and improved data analysis.
Recommend improvements to the SHE data management systems for enhanced data management, to enhance the data management capabilities and deliver more effective safety and environmental practices and/or services.
Monitor due dates on outstanding actions and audit findings to ensure timely resolution of outstanding actions and audit findings, contributing to improved safety and compliance.
Provide monthly statistical data to other departments and external stakeholders, to facilitate data-driven decision-making.
Receive, schedule, and prioritise operational requests related to SHE data and reporting, to ensure the timely responses to all SHE-related issues and the provision of required data/documentation.
Monitor SHE programs and provide stakeholders with all necessary SHE reports, to foster a safe and compliant work environment, enhancing safety and regulatory compliance across TM.


Document Management


Together with the document control department manages the safety document library.
Maintain documents with adequate change control, to ensure their accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Organise, maintain and file all SHE-related documents, including safety procedures, health records, and environmental reports, to ensure that they are kept safe and available for when needed.
Monitor all documents related to the SHE department to ensure that they are up to date, organised, and the latest version readily accessible for SHE personnel and regulatory compliance.
Administer documentation processes, including but not limited to filing, indexing and organising, to ensure easy access and retrieval of essential information.


Administrative Support


Secure necessary approvals for governance documents, resulting in well-documented and up-to-date governance materials.
Maintained the intranet by ensuring that it is up to date with the latest SHE information, to create easy access for all relevant stakeholders as and when critical data is needed.
Provide support in the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of company-wide total SHE initiatives, so as to contribute towards a safer and more compliant work environment.
Provide administrative support to the SHE Department by coordinating with other internal departments, to schedule safety training, meetings, and audits.
Provide support in organising safety and health training sessions and awareness campaigns, by managing all the related administrative tasks, to maintain training records and schedules.
Provide support in the preparation of SHE-related communication materials and presentations, by managing all the related administrative tasks, to ensure the material is ready for distribution to the end users.
Track the use of safety equipment, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and resource inventory, to ensure the ordering and maintaining of the necessary supplies for safety and health programs.


Legal and regulatory compliance


Coordinate legal appointments by maintaining a comprehensive register of all legal appointees, promoting transparency and compliance, to ensure that all appointments are managed in accordance with legal requirements.
Maintain an updated Due Diligence register for Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) inspections and program increment (PI) instructions, to assist in the timely closure of findings, ensuring regulatory compliance and addressing safety and operational concerns.


Stakeholder Relations


Engage with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of specialisation, as directed by the Manager.
Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.
Liaise with key business stakeholders to gather all the needed SHE data and information, for reporting and string purposes.

Documentation Management System Support and IsoMetrix


Assist to promote communication to ensure SHE information flow and updates, alignment with operational and other requirements, to ensure seamless information flow and compliance with operational and other requirements.
Admininstrate a DMS process. (Document Management System)

Ensure effective record management practices and availability of relevant registers are compiled per department including the auditing of record management practices aligned to the schedule.

Drilling Management


Supervise the operational drilling across TM by implementing and driving adherence to the daily plan and established targets as well as monitoring the use, management, and maintenance of all drilling equipment.
Implement the drilling procedure at TM by ensuring blocks are first appropriately cleaned, holes are drilled to the predetermined depth and width and are... appropriately charged for blasting.
Minimise the operational cost per shift by ensuring all resources used in the drilling function are used as efficiently as possible by limiting errors and planning the implementation of the daily plan optimally.
Supervise the drilling shift by providing guidance and enforcing adherence to drilling and operational targets as well as to ensure that safety meeting, safe declarations and risk assessments are done before drilling commences.

Drive and enforce compliance around all drilling practices within Tharisa Minerals,
Compile shift specific data by analysing shift performance against their established kpi’s and monitoring their achievement of their kpi’s and raising any potential concerns with the Pit Superintendent to ensure operations are optimised.
Conduct an initial inspection of the drilling site, identifying any blast misfires and cracks and provide shift specific reports on daily operating effectiveness and tracking towards the daily plan ensuring targets are met.

Financial Management


Follow budgeting guidelines and bring about the necessary changes to curb costs to achieve annual operating and capital budgets, ensuring planned spend and budget for the drilling function is not exceeded.


Health and Safety


Enforce regulatory frameworks and company COP guidelines in relation to Health and Safety by continuously updating all relevant policies and procedures as required and ensuring that they are appropriately communicated with the staff.
Regularly engage with staff by running regular meetings ensuring all SHEQ policies and procedures are understood and adhered to.
Monitor and enforce compliance with relevant industry regulations, safety protocols, and environmental standards related to drilling and blasting operations.
Conform to the Mine Health and Safety Act guidelines in terms of safety by continuously updating drilling procedures ensuring that they are understood and implemented by all drilling staff.

Weekly Operational Planning


Build, complete, own and present the responsible section of the weekly operational plan, ensuring alignment between the schedules and the WOP, STP and the practical execution thereof.
Collate the relevant operational and Mineral Resources Management (MRM) inputs and verify the validity, accuracy and applicability of the information.
Conduct... detailed block and access designs and scheduling for the week - and short-term plan, for optimal pit deployment.
Provide input into the reconciliation process, by collaborating and interfacing with the short-term planning team to achieve optimal alignment between the WOP and STP.
Translate planning into practical pit operations and influence WOP practicality, ensuring the WOP is of a high quality and practically executable in such a way that interfaces are managed and that it fully supports operational requirements.
Include the scheduling of RC drilling planning and the design of accesses and stockpile levels management into the weekly operational plan, to support the pit operations team in executing their activities according to plan.
Draft and submit balanced ore-path and floor stock periodic plans, supporting the delivery of pit ore-flow and run of mine stockpile build-up that will meet and exceed both volume and grade plant feed ratio expectations and budget. 
Conduct frequent pit visits to ensure the plan is relevant, practical and considers the physical pit-conditions and challenges in the field.
Liaise with the mine operations team to establish and maintain detailed in-pit WOP information, ensuring planning activities are aligned with the status in the pit.
Establish and maintain detailed WOP information and track Mine to Plan compliance, to ensure WOP mine plans meet and exceed the 85% compliance requirement.

Take guidance from the Short-Term Plan (STP), Medium-Term Plan (MTP) and the approved geotechnical parameters to ensure adherence to pit boundaries/limits.

RC Sampling


Conduct sampling operations at designated mine sites using a variety of tools and techniques in line with established schedules and procedures
Measure each drilled hole, using relevant equipment, to check holes are drilled to the correct depth according to the drill plan
Collect representative samples from the RC drill holes, delivering quality and timely work within given boundaries of relevant policies and procedures
Observe, track and record sample characteristics (including colour, texture, shape, size, smell, density, weight, temperature, etc.), ensuring proper handling of collected samples
Count, measure, weigh, and label samples as needed, ensuring proper handling and documentation of collected samples
Bag samples for testing at other locations and transport samples to the laboratory for testing if necessary, according to standard procedures, to maintain the safety of samples
Compare sample to standard model to quickly assess basic quality of sample
Test samples and confirm their conformance to industry standards; notify management when materials do not meet specifications/irregular findings and indicate percentages of materials of specified size, to ensure the integrity and quality of samples
Continuously observe and maintain the drilling cadence of the machine monitoring for dust and inefficiency
Remove rods, together with the RC Drilling Operator, upon drilling completion, ensuring there is no contamination or damage to other drill holes.
Identify opportunities to reduce contamination, by conducting regular site inspections, to support in-pit optimisation


RC Sample Processing 


Dispatch geological samples to the geology logging area for processing and laboratory for assays according to the daily requirement.
Receive collected drilled RC holes and samples and the corresponding drill chip tray at the geology sample processing plant/area, to enable sample sorting in preparation for logging.
Conduct geological sampling preparation, splitting, compositing and tagging on RC, TH, TFS and Stockpile samples, to ensure quality control of geological pit sampling
Discard samples remains, including sample plastics, from the geology sampling process area and the laboratory, including on skip bins into the disposing area (stockpiles) according to procedure and per the line manager’s instructions, to support site rehabilitation


Recordkeeping and Reporting


Capture all collected sampling data in the SABLE database and generate strip logs to support the creation of verbal and written reports for all stakeholders involved

Role Context
Compliance, Risk and Safety

Conduct risk assessments per shift cycle/rotation, ensuring adherence to mining safety standards and best practices
Conduct inspections to identify and report/correct substandard and unsafe conditions, ensuring that drilling areas are set up and safely demarcated

Data Interpretation and Reporting 

Interpret, examine and record geological data... collected, to support management decision making timeously

Ore Sampling and Analysis

Contribute to the assessment of geological conditions, by collecting, examining, and identifying samples, according to sampling procedure, to support the gathering of  geological samples and processing at sampling plant/area on a mine site (basic sampling)
Conduct face sampling, by sampling the channel width according to sampling procedures to gather ore specimens for analysis
Conduct face mapping, by identifying, describing, geological features and mapping the lithologies according to standard operating procedures, to determine quality attributes of ores
Co-ordinate ORE material and Quality-Grade control processes in the pit, to optimise ore Blending flow throughput and minimise/control dilution of ore/waste mixing different ore types
Provide significant support to Mining Production operations whilst spending time in the pit as required in order to ensure adherence to the business Grade Control requirements as stipulated in the ore handling and sampling procedures
Physically measure mining dilution and control through digging of trenches on the ore/waste boundary/contacts, ensuring adherence to loading and material destination plans and reporting.
Conduct blast holes/drilled holes spot checks to re-measure and audit compliance to drilling-plan, ensuring holes area drilled to the depth requirement
Conduct ore and waste/interburden waste (IBW) loading, by marking geological ore-waste contacts to help determine/establish waste exposing mining-cut in support of the waste digging plan and grade control dig plan implementation
Handle ore and continually monitor Stockpile qualities and dilution control, to support Run-of-Mine Material Destination Tracking/Crusher Plants ROM Ore quality management and feed control, line with the Crusher Feed Plan
Drill, log and capture test holes, timeously sample handover for processing and laboratory assays according to the requirement
Liaise with mining personnel regarding the material destination action plan to control daily stockpile material movement
Discard samples remains, including sample plastics, from the geology sampling process area and the laboratory, including on skip bins into the disposing area (stockpiles) according to procedure and per the Geologist’s instructions, to support site rehabilitation

Quality Assurance and Quality Control

Implement the developed protocols for assessing ore quality, ensuring compliance with established Quality Assurance and Quality Control standards
Identify deviations and recommend corrective actions, when necessary, to enable the mining production team to proactively address potential issues impacting production quality  
Collaborate with operational teams to implement corrective actions and optimise processes to maintain high-quality ore output

Resource Management

Provide input into required changes in resources (financial or non-financial) to enable the achievement of team and/or own objectives
Provide input into resource needs of the team and/or own area of work to achieve business outcomes
Request and allocate required assets and/or resources for the fulfilment of work objectives to guarantee quality outputs
Monitor the use of assets and resources within the team and own area of responsibility, to ensure assets and resources are consistently and appropriately utilised and managed
Provide staff with day-to-day direction and tasks aligned with Departmental procedures, to enable the usage of less resources more efficiently

Stakeholder Relations

Communicate with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of speciality. Liaise across the relevant Departments by engaging with the appropriate stakeholders to ensure all stakeholders remain abreast of Departmental objectives, any potential derailers are appropriately managed and duplication of work is avoided
Communicate with internal stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships

Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:

Grade 12 (NQF4) with Mathematics and Physical Science as subjects
Basic Sampling Certificate
Elementary Sampling Certificate is advantageous
BSc or BTech in Geology will be an added advantage

 Job specific experience:

Minimum of between two to three (2-3) years of experience in the mining geology environment
Experience in the Geology Department is advantageous
Computer literate in MS Office
Valid Driving Licence
