The Project Accounting Analyst is a self-starter and will be responsible for all facets of project and contract financial management.  The main purpose of this position is to provide performance reporting, budgeting/forecasting, analysis and business support.  An essential part of the role is to ensure connectivity and alignment with Finance, Area Managers, Project Controls, Estimating, Payroll,... Engineering, Contracts and clients.  In this context the jobholder will be expected to work with all of these functions in both a support, and influencing/challenging capacity.  This role will lead and sponsor process creation, improvement initiatives, and changes within Redpath Canada Limited. 

- Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of all monthly financial management information (MI) used by Finance and Accounting teams to help monitor and drive performance improvements.
- Project Cash flow analysis and presentation of key variables to stakeholders.
- Support monthly presentations with the preparation of project variance reporting.
- Prepare and submit Labour, Equipment and Materials (LEMs)/ Electronic daily Billings to the client.
- Coordinate collection and submission of the documentation required for invoicing, including statutory declarations and WCB clearance certificates, etc.
- Assist procurement and accounts payable to resolve any issues including review and reconciliation of cost coding, purchase orders and open commitments.
- Perform revenue & accrual entries from information provided by Project Controls, Procurement, Project Management and Finance.
- Ensuring Monthly Project Estimates are completed on time.
- Provide timely and insightful analysis that illuminates performance and trends as well as serves as early indicator of risks/opportunities to delivery.
- Perform various specialized accounting functions of moderate complexity and ensure that procedures and practices are followed in accordance with company policy, accounting principles and contractual obligations. 
- Identify and analyze underlying performance variances against forecasts, plan and/or prior year and follow-through on lines of enquiries/investigations as well provided recommended courses of action.
- Actively participate and support the monthly Redpath Canada Limited closing and billing cycles.
- Support the business by ensuring management and teams are provided with sufficient data, analysis and support for plans, forecasts, and business initiatives to enable performance delivery and enhanced decision-making.
- Assist in determining the functional reporting needs and requirements and review data integrity.
- Lead and/or participate in complex inter-domain projects.
- Identify and resolve escalations or complex issues with strong emphasis on associated patterns, trends, and root cause analysis.
- Work independently to analyze various measurements to identify front-tier performance improvement opportunities.
- Train team members/Develop reports and dashboards for front-tier performance metrics.
- Lead/Collaborate with cross functional teams for identifying areas of performance improvements.

 
 
Salary Range (Base): $70,000 - $95,000 - Based on knowledge, skills and experience.

Education
Required:  Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related courses. 
Preferred:  Accounting designation CPA (CGA/CA/CMA) or CFA considered an asset. 
 
Work Experience: 
Required: 3-5 years’ experience working in accounting environment, preferably in a project environment with detailed knowledge of accounting for contract and change order documentation.
 
Qualifications:
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office – in particular Excel• Excellent verbal and written communication skills• Relevant industry (Construction or Mining) and Oracle Fusion experience would be an asset.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Matric certificate/ equivalent
Minimum 5 years of experience of full cycle accounting
BSc in Accounting, Finance or relevant degree
Additional certification (CPA or CMA) is a plus
Computer literacy (MS Office) – Advance Excel, HFM, VENA, ERP system, Word and Power Point
Knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures
Valid code 8 driver’s license & own reliable... transport – willing to travel

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Previous working experience in Mining, Finance Department and Project Accounting
Knowledge of full financial functions up to financial statements level.
Strong skill of working on ERP system (SAGE advantage)
Strong process documentation and analytical skills

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, intercompany transactions, payment processing, financial statement compilation, financial analysis, cashflow, regulatory filings, and period closing activities.
Analyse expense coding for all overhead departments and communicate monthly overhead expense reports to department heads
Facilitating preparation of budgets and forecasts
Administers all banking transactions and prepares weekly cash reports for all Business Units
Prepare month end bank reconciliations, Balance sheet account and income statement reconciliation and journal entries
Handle monthly, quarterly and annual closings
Raising monthly journals (Accruals, Depreciation and provisions)
Reconcile intercompany loan accounts
Create ad hoc templates, reports, and analysis for use by managers/departments to evaluate their businesses.
VAT calculations and recons
Prepare audit files, support audit team and ensure timeous close out of STATS and GROUP Audits
Support implementation of accounting changes /Other regulatory changes
