"Dr. Valentine Ochanda has been known to me at a personal and professional level for a period of over nine years when I was pursuing my doctoral studies at the time. She successfully finished her doctoral studies and graduated in December 2017 in Johannesburg, South Africa. I have continued to follow her career progression and development as she continues to sharpen her exceptional research skills and experiences.
During her PhD process and in her current role she has displayed a good sense of punctuality and reliability. She is also a hard worker who does not need much supervision and will do anything extra that is required of her with ease. The leadership capabilities that I have observed also clearly demonstrate that Dr Ochanda has a high potential to carry out cutting-edge research in her areas of interest. She has shown a keen interest in the areas of planning, the planning of cities especially coastal cities. Her research has been on cities, settlements, critical infrastructure, and the associated climate challenges facing these cities. Currently, she is working on regional planning and the Blue Economy and the role of coastal cities in enhancing the Blue economy concepts. In achieving SDG 11, how can integrated regional planning and blue economy be city and people-focused.
She is also a well-rounded person who is also involved in various extra curriculum activities and has been very able to balance these with her studies/work and ensure that she performs her best in both her studies/work and the activities she is involved in.
