Umar Faruk Kabir

Work experience
  • Umar Faruk is a human rights advocate, activist and proactive campaigner for the rule of law and fight against corruption in Nigeria. He voluntarily led projects on prison system reform, Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and youth and professional mentorship. He has an over a decade of experience working with local and international civil society organizations on administration of criminal justice law, rule of law, judiciary, and human rights issues, including as a board of trustee member of the Spotlight (NGO for accountability and fight against corruption in the underdeveloped Northeast Nigeria) from 2018 to date. He also served as the National Secretary/ Legal Adviser of Mandela Washington fellowship Alumni Association of Nigeria (MWFAAN) in 2019. He received the 2018 US Dept. of State’s Mandela Washington Fellowship for young and exceptional African leaders for his outstanding performance as a Magistrate in Nigeria. He was 2020 Acumen West Africa Fellow for human rights and fight against injustice and was also a 2021 Draper Hills Summer Fellow at Stanford University’s Center for Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law. He’s currently serving as Chief Magistrate / Zonal Administrative Secretary Malumfashi Judicial.
