  • The Cluster Coordinator role will Provide support to coordinate and facilitate Accelerated Learning in literacy and numeracy in Kano State across Teacher and Mentor Capacity Building, Measurement and Monitoring, Community Engagement and Research and Learning at an LGA level. The primary purpose of the role is to build government actors capacity, and systems to ensure that effective Accelerated Learning classes are delivered and learning outcomes improve. The role will require someone who is dynamic, creative, good at managing multiple different tasks and passionate about improving the learning outcomes of all children.
  • Responsibilities
  • 1. Support the delivery, monitoring and tracking of Accelerated Learning activities:
  • conducting phone interviews and collecting data using KoboCollect and other data collection devices
  • preparing programme/ survey update reports on a weekly basis
  • supporting Measurement and Learning Associates with different data collection, data cleaning, and data management activities
  • liaising with local government authorities/ community members for programme coordination/ strengthening
  • working closely with the content team leads to provide feedback relevant for content
  • 1. Become an expert in Dual Language and TaRL instruction and support:
  • Work with TaRL Africa team to develop a deep understanding of the TaRL approach and learn techniques for providing instructional support
  • Practice the Dual Language and TaRL methodology in the classroom to build practical skillset
  • 1. Build the capacity of instructors and mentors:
  • Support teachers and mentors to deliver effective accelerated learning classes, including visiting classes, supporting struggling schools, working with government mentors to build their skills to support teachers
  • Work with government to ensure that review and reflection meetings organised and attended.
  • 1. Facilitate timely collections and collation of assessment and classroom observation data
  • Smooth and support government data entry and collation processes
  • Collect additional process data as is required for programmatic and reporting purposes.
  • 1. Try innovative classroom approaches to address challenges that emerge in the classroom.
  • Cluster Coordinators will be allocated Champion Schools. Champion Schools are schools where we hope to have more direct engagement, to learn and incubate solutions before they get rolled out to the rest of the pilot. Cluster Coordinators will be required to identify key challenges teachers are facing within the classroom and try out potential solutions through directly delivering classes.
  • Share lessons from Champion Schools with instructors and mentors.

  • Led a team of four to support the delivery, implementation and monitoring of Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) activities in Dawakin Tofa nd Ungogo Local Government Areas leading to improved learning outcomes for 50,000 pupils and capacity building for 1,029 teachers.
  • Strengthened existing public school monitoring systems by providing monitoring support and coaching on positive feedback techniques to 60 School support Officers thereby improving their school monitoring and reporting skills.
  • Served as Primary Contact person between Ungogo and Dawakin Tofa Local Government Educational Authorities and the Kano Accelerated Learning Senior Management Team thereby ensuring information from senior management reaches the Local Government stakeholders in a timely manner and sharing stakeholders' feedback and observations with senior management.
  • Worked with School based management committees, community leaders and social organisations to ensure acceptance of the TaRL approach in Ungogo and Dawakin Tofa Local Government areas which also led to higher enrolment levels and lower rates of absenteeism as measured by Classroom attendance records.
  • Successfully planned and monitored training programs for 60 School Support Officers, 196 Headteachers, 16 Assistant Headteachers and 1,029 teachers to improve their teaching skills using the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach thereby improving the learning outcomes of 50,000 pupils in primary 4, 5 and 6 of Dawakin Tofa and Ungogo Local Government Areas of Kano State.
