Professional description
I am currently employed at Pembe Flour Mills Ltd, a prominent milling company specializing in wheat and maize grains in East Africa, in the capacity of Food Technologist. My role involves operating as a laboratory technologist, where I conduct analyses of wheat and maize grains, as well as animal feeds and processed flour. It is my responsibility to ensure that all products meet the safety and suitability standards for human consumption as established by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).
For example, we examine the presence of aflatoxin in maize grains and maize meal utilizing the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) technique. Additionally, I perform microbiological analyses for all products. I am also responsible for overseeing fortification control, ensuring that our products fulfill the necessary vitamin and mineral requirements to support good nutrition.
In my capacity as HACCP and GMP Coordinator, I ensure that hygiene and safety standards are rigorously maintained throughout the company. Furthermore, I engage in part-time work as an HIV counselor at Kware Dispensary, where I contribute to community education regarding the nature of the disease and available treatments. My efforts are focused on reducing the stigma associated with HIV, which remains one of the most significant challenges facing society today.
