  • In Entomology laboratory- learn to identify the various crop insects,
  • isolate and present them for testing. Also, find solutions on ways to
  • control the insect population without interfering with the ecosystem.
  •  In Molecular lab- perform separation of DNA from cells, identifying the
  • pathogen strain via PCR and investigation of plants for imports and
  • exports. Also, basic knowledge on DNA coding.
  •  In Virology lab- learn on Viral plant cleaning using a combination of tissue
  • culture, chemotherapy and thermotherapy. Also, performing all types of
  • ELISA tests, grow out tests, mechanical inoculating and grafting.
  •  In Bacteriology lab- Perform identification of bacterial pathogens, carry out
  • tests as ELISA, growth selective media, biochemical and molecular
  • techniques.
  •  Mycology laboratory- Identified different fungal species on affected plants or
  • tested if the plants were infested in cases of imports and exports. Th fungal
  • tests carried out included direct isolation of mycelia and culturing such as
  • under Near-UV light for sporulation. Also, techniques like molecular
  • identification and DNA barcoding.
  •  Nematology- identification of nematodes using cysts and nematode structure.
  • Extraction of nematodes using the Baermann funnel method and the tray
  • method.
  •  Tissue Culture Laboratory- Germplasm exchange through cleaning of
  • infected breeding plants using thermotherapy and meristem tip culture.
  • Breeding of clean, genetically strong plants for export and sale to local
  • farmers.
  •  Green House- breeding of seed to sell to farmers for playing and also
  • hardening of tissue culture crops.
