  • As operations manager at Hinata Energy, a pioneering renewable energy player in Northern Nigeria, the company is changing the status quo of a novel technology to a region where over 70% of the nation’s poorest are situated. Majority of households in Nigeria, especially in rural and peri-urban areas are still dependent on hydrocarbon products for cooking. Through our product offering and multi-stakeholder advocacy, we are accelerating the efficient transitioning from polluting fuels to cleaner energy, so also we have engaged in collaborating with key stakeholders within and beyond the state of Kaduna in order to extend our impact in reducing polluting fuel dependency for cooking. Our biofuel-powered cookstoves protect, restores and sustainably uses services provided by the natural ecosystem. Our project addresses the issues of climate change and carbon reduction and proffers positive socio-economic impact with environmental enhancement and protection, inclusion, gender equality, climate justice, also to improving health.
  • In May 2022, Hinata Energy signed an agreement with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to deploy 50,000 single-burner biofuel-powered cookstoves across all federal and state polytechnics in Nigeria. This agreement comes on the back of a successful partnership with Kaduna Polytechnic to deploy 1,000 units of biofuel-powered cookstoves to their student hostels. The partnership allows NBTE to explore the option of using biofuel as a mainstream clean cooking option for students in campus hostel accommodation since it is safer and cheaper.
  • The agreement will save more than 150,000 metric tons of carbon emission(C02) annually thereby protecting the environment. It will also allow income generation for our polytechnic partners through a long-term leasing arrangement for students.
  • My driven passion for sustainable energy growth, I intend to promote behavioral change toward clean energy. By driving consumer demand for cleaner, more modern stoves and fuels, we could build a dynamic, inclusive, and financially sustainable industry with the goal of achieving universal access to clean cooking by 2030.
  • These activities are leading to improved human health, reduced climate change effects, empower women, and improved livelihoods, increased ambition and investment, more effective targeted policies and interventions, and a greater sense of urgency as my country and community target for universal access by 2030. And with it, we will continue to provide enormous opportunities to improve and lift some of the heaviest burdens for the most vulnerable among us.
  • My long-term goal is to contribute my quota to making clean cookstoves accessible and affordable to all, especially African women and children irrespective of their social status and income. I chose this work to create awareness and drive a national and global adoption of clean and low-emission household energy solutions which would also reduce air pollution, loss of habitat and biodiversity, and help slow forest degradation.
