"Rick is a great writer with a natural facility for language that is both philosophical and engaging. His greatest book in my opinion is Skulls of Istria, a confessional tale set in a bar in Piran on the Adriatic in which the protagonist recounts the strange circumstances of his life and the choices he made that brought him face to face with the inevitability of death. The story will remind you of The Fall by Camus and is just as brilliant. Next in line is Rick's book The Manifold Destiny of Eddie Vegas , a rather sprawling partly contemporary Western with a poetic use of language that folds back in upon itself. The bottom line is that Rick Harsch is a consummate professional writer, the real deal, and lives life as a writer should by following the integrity of his vision as an artist."
