"I connected with Richard Jackson through a colleague who told me about a documentary film project about hip-hop journalism that he was working to organize. His idea for the project and its scope impressed me as did his commitment to delving into forgotten history and spotlighting all aspects of an artform whose founding include many people and circumstances responsible for hip-hop's growth, promotion and success. Mr. Jackson's efforts to conduct the in-depth research needed to explore the topic spoke volumes about his integrity and intentions. In addition, his straightforward presentation of what his project was about, its origins and his constraints in trying to get the project off the ground inspired confidence in the goal he was trying to achieve. As a storyteller, any documentarian must be committed and credible for their work to resonate with an audience.
