About

As a freelance fiction writer, my world is defined by both the creative freedom to write and the business responsibilities that come with self-employment. Success requires not only a mastery of storytelling but also the resilience to face an often low-paying and competitive market, especially when one is just starting out. I have forged a timeline in literary worlds that will outlive me. Overall, I have the confidence and long-term experience that enable me to set aside my ego, shrug off any pressure of hubris, and create visions that please both my clients and myself. Original fiction: Writing and independently publishing your own novels, novellas, or short stories. This path can offer the most creative control, but the writer is also responsible for all marketing and promotion. Ghostwriting: Writing books for a client credited as the author. This can provide a more consistent, but less creatively freeing, income stream. The pay can be low, and deadlines may be tight. Content marketing: Applying narrative skills to other content forms, such as crafting stories for a brand, writing for video games, or creating email campaigns. This is one of the more financially viable freelance writing paths. Writing and research: This is the core work, but the amount of time dedicated to it varies. Some writers have a rigid schedule, while others prefer more organic, creative bursts. I try to stick to a plan and slay the procrastination monster that always lurks nearby. Business development: A significant portion of the day is spent finding and securing new projects. This involves networking, pitching to editors or publishers, and applying for gigs on freelance platforms. Administrative tasks, including managing invoices, tracking payments, and general bookkeeping, are essential responsibilities. Editing and revisions: Writers must be prepared to edit their work and revise based on client or editor feedback Creative freedom: Writers can pursue the stories they are passionate about and have greater control over their innovative projects, especially when self-publishing. Flexibility and autonomy: A flexible schedule enables me to work from anywhere and set my own hours, thereby improving my work-life balance. Variety of work: Freelancers can choose a diverse range of projects, which keeps the job interesting and expands their skill set. Personal satisfaction: The sense of accomplishment that comes from creating a finished story, having your work praised, and connecting with an audience provides deep personal fulfillment.
