  • The duties and responsibilities of the Director (QAS) are to;-
  • (i) Lead in the implementation of the departmental strategies on quality assurance and teacher registration, to ensure the overall teacher management function is well equipped to deliver quality service
  • (ii) Participate in the development of timely and quality work plans for staff in the department, derived from the department’s overall strategy, to ensure the attainment of the set timelines and quality standards in the implementation of the strategy
  • (iii) Provide leadership in the development of budgets for the division and ensure sufficient allocation of resources required for the implementation of the department strategy
  • (iv) Oversee the registration of teachers to ensure the exercise is carried out within the stipulated guidelines and set requirements
  • (v) Coordinate and oversee professional teacher development programs to ensure alignment with the career guidelines in order to maintain a motivated workforce
  • (vi) Coordinate standards assessment in education institutions to ensure quality and provide feedback to the director teacher management, for the development of strategies that address the identified gaps
  • (vii) Oversee the performance appraisal exercise of teachers to ensure the development of programmes to be used to address the gaps identified, and to enhance performance and service delivery
  • (viii) Review entry qualifications to the teaching profession, in order to maintain high quality standards in the delivery of service, and to enhance the relevance of the knowledge impacted to the learners
  • (ix) Coordinate and monitor the implementation of recognition, awards and sanction among the teachers in the public basic education institutions.
  • (x) Coordinate and oversee the identification, selection and award process for teachers to enhance teacher recognition, awards and motivation.
  • (xi) Coordinate and monitor the competency-based curriculum teacher training programmes
  • (xii) Offer leadership in implementation of syllabus, curriculum designs, timetables and in the distribution of work load in order to manage students, teachers and other stakeholders expectations on the quality of education offered
  • (xiii) Provide leadership in mentoring and coaching of directorate staff to inspire and motivate staff.
