"There's an old saying that goes, “Colonels talk tactics, but generals talk logistics!” When I arrived as the new Medical Planner for the 22D Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) I had the privilege of working with Mike Micheal who was one of the most trusted officers on the command staff, and for good reason. Mike's innate intelligence, talent, willingness to train others and tireless dedication to the success of every mission made sure that we achieved and sustained championship level logistical excellence across the entire range of Marine Air-Ground Task Force Operations. As the medical planner, I can unequivocally say that his expert perspectives changed the way we thought about and approached MEDEVAC missions. Even after he left the MEU, we continued to do business with his perspectives in mind. It was one of the few deployments in my 28 year career that not one Marine lost his life. Whatever their need, we had the supplies and equipment needed to treat them on site, or if we had to move them back the to the states, Mike's expert advice made sure we were able to move them to definitive care swiftly and safely. I would welcome any opportunity to work with him again, if the opportunity surfaced.
