  • Ensuring effective and coherent sectoral needs assessment and analysis, involving all relevant partners and complimenting sectors.
  • In collaboration with the SPHCDA, UNICEF, IMTWG, and with other sectors partners, ensure nutrition assessments are conducted using standardized tools and methods at the State/LGA level.
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Coordinating with the UNICEF/WFP/WHO, RRM, and other rapid response mechanisms in identifying the locations for intervention based on sector priorities, mobilizing partners to participate in the Missions, and analyzing all data generated by RRM teams.
  • Ensuring adequate contingency planning and preparedness for new emergencies including monitoring/surveillance and timely propositioning of contingency stock in hotspot LGAs/sites.
  • Planning and strategy development
  • Regularly liaising with the LGA “Lead agencies” and State government authorities at State and LGA level to identify progress, gaps, bottlenecks, and challenges in the implementation of nutrition responses, and communicate/feedback to the Sector coordinator and propose solutions
  • Ensuring predictable action within the sectoral group for the following:
  • o Identification of gaps.
  • o Developing/updating agreed-on response strategies and action plans for the sector and ensuring that these are adequately reflected in the state strategies.
  • o Drawing lessons learned from past activities and revising strategies accordingly.
  • o Developing an exit, or transition, strategy for the sectoral group and leading the capacity building of the government line department
  • Application of standards
  • Ensuring that sectoral group participants are aware of relevant policy guidelines, technical standards, and relevant commitments that the Government has undertaken under international human rights law.
  • Ensuring that responses are in line with existing policy guidance, technical standards, and relevant Government and human rights legal obligations.
  • Monitoring and reporting
  • Supporting the SPHCDA nutrition information management and ensure all data from the States are accurately and timely captured in the overall Sector coordination information management products including 5W, bulletins, etc., including needs, gaps, supply pipeline updates, etc.
  • Conducting regular nutrition monitoring, analysis, and write-up of the nutrition sector information from the various sources and share nutrition briefings with stakeholders and monthly situation analysis with the humanitarian community.
  • Supporting UNICEF (Sector Lead Agency) to plan, monitor, supervise, report, and evaluate all the interventions supported by UNICEF or its partners.
  • Ensuring adequate monitoring mechanisms are in place to review the impact of the LGA coordination and progress against implementation plans.
  • Ensuring adequate reporting and effective information sharing (with OCHA field office support), with due regard for age and sex disaggregation.
  • Supporting Sector Information Management Officer (IMO) to ensure nutrition-related data are compiled, analyzed and synthesized to inform planning and decision making.
  • Supporting the sector IMO to ensure mapping of various nutrition-related needs assessment planned or done including multi-sector needs assessments and ensure NUTRITION findings are refined.

  • Identifying core advocacy concerns, including resource requirements, and contribute key messages to broader advocacy initiatives at the state and LGA level.
  • Encouraging sectoral group participants to mobilize resources for their activities through their usual channels.
  • Training and capacity building
  • Identifying capacity building needs for the sector and coordinate and support the training of humanitarian personnel and capacity development of humanitarian partners; based on capacity mapping and understanding of available personnel and institutional capacities.
  • Promoting/supporting the training of staff and capacity building of humanitarian partners.
  • Leading and working with the government line department for a phased take-over of the coordination group.
  • Supporting efforts to strengthen the capacity of the national authorities, civil society, and LGA authorities
