Katie Hipol

I have known Katie for many years and across two campuses, Gavilan College and San José State University, where she was a student in both introductory... and advanced coursework. Most recently, she worked with me on the costume team for a full stage production. In every one of those settings she has been the same person: prepared, thorough, and genuinely invested in doing the work well.

Katie keeps detailed notes and actually uses them. In a costume shop, where one unrecorded measurement or alteration can cost hours later, that kind of record-keeping is worth its weight, and the same habit will serve her in any environment that runs on accuracy and follow-through. She communicates clearly and early. I never had to chase her for a status update, and when something was off, I heard about it before it was too late to fix it.

What sets her apart is initiative paired with attitude. She does not wait to be handed the next task; she sees what needs doing, asks the right question when she is unsure, and follows through. She does it all with genuine good humor, which matters more than people admit when deadlines get tight.
