Work experience
  • While in this position, I support laboratory-based scientific research by undertaking a range of routine technical tasks and experiments; planning, setting up and undertaking controlled experiments and clinical trials. In this position, my roles included developing quality systems and standard operating procedures, assessing the laboratory and identifying gaps in the quality system using WHO SLIPTA checklist and ISO 15189 Standards, ensuring that equipment are secure, functional and well maintained and also maintaining laboratory records, quality control in TB Culture Laboratory, sample reception and specimen storage, monitoring and execution of laboratory projects, processing and analysis of sputum specimen in TB Laboratory, ensuring safety measures against hazards, monitoring of laboratory equipment, ensuring quality and accuracy of all aspects in the BSL 2 and BSL 3 Laboratory, internal auditing and monitoring of all laboratory activities and guiding the laboratory towards accreditation. I have also read and understood the national guidelines on HIV/AIDS/ TB diagnostics and related diseases.
  • Operated a quality management system for now 6 years at the Mycobacteriology Laboratory, a laboratory that I together with my team got accredited by the CAP
  • Participated in quality assurance for laboratories, ensuring safety measures against hazards, ensuring that equipment is secure, functional and well maintained, ensuring adequate level of laboratory hygiene and promoting good working conditions for laboratory personnel and laboratory users and carrying out home based care for voluntary testing and counselling.
  • Design and implement strategies to ensure that the laboratory is following SLMTA program and to establish a frame work for facility specific LQMS at non- SLMTA labs.
  • Plan, coordinate and conduct trainings and mentorships for different laboratories to address capacity gaps and build skills for delivery of quality lab services for example documentation practices.
  • Conduct site mentorship and joint support supervision visits to SLMTA and non SLMTA labs and facilities to ensure effective implementation of LQMS in liaison with technical teams.
  • Design and functionalize systems to manage laboratory supplies and commodities to ensure constant availability.
  • Organize and schedule review meetings and ensure smooth operations and effective utilization of HIV and TB related lab services including TB gene xpert, DNA-PCR.
  • Monitor and discuss the turnaround time for all the tests done by producing turn around reports and rejection rate report in the lab, closely with the supervisors and data team which are discussed in meetings monthly.
  • I interpret results and submit reports to clinicians
  • Organizing work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling; sorting specimens, checking labeling, logging specimen, arranging reports for delivery, keeping work surfaces clean and orderly.
  • Contribute to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers by following the established Standard Operating Procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Outstanding customer service with clients by listening to the client’s complaints and responding to them immediately. This has sold the name of the company through customer satisfaction thus more clients.
  • Performing or conducting detailed internal and external audits, assessing root cause analysis, brainstorming corrective and preventive actions and monitoring effectiveness of the develop corrective actions; which actually led to valid results. I have the ability to prepare action-oriented work plans and come up with innovative strategies to fill the identified gaps to ensure delivery of quality lab services
  • Maintaining quality results by running standards and controls, verifying equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and advanced trouble shooting; calibrating equipment utilizing approved testing procedures, monitoring quality control measure and protocols.
  • I have performed lab biosafety practices, good equipment management practices including calibration, monitored commercial service contracts for lab equipment and ensured that there is uninterrupted service delivery as a result of equipment malfunction.
  • Performing routine tests procedures like GeneXpert, Sample Processing, TB Microscopy, Liquid and solid culture, Drug Susceptibility testing and rapid tests in accordance with set standards.
  • Serve as a technical resource by participating in staff training; answering questions of other professionals, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications and maintaining personal networks.
  • Liaising with Study Principal Investigators on study protocol and designing study tools in accordance with the study objectives.
  • Performance and following up of EQA external quality assurance panels, proficiency test and internal quality control. I ensured that this was performed timely and always meet the deadline. I have the ability to strengthen QA efforts both at the labs and point of care and ensure that the lab supervises point-of-care testers to participate in internal and external quality control schemes in line with national guidelines
  • Evaluation of the pharmacokinetics of antituberculosis drugs and tuberculosis treatment outcomes in HIV-Tuberculosis Co-infected Ugandan Adults and Novel Techniques for the Detection of Paediatric Tuberculosis in Uganda
  • I monitored and executed laboratory projects, developed policies and ensured adherence to the developed policies, overseeing personnel and laboratory activities, participated in laboratory budgetary activities and planned general activities of the laboratory.
  • I worked on various protocols like Multicentre Study of the Accuracy and feasibility of the Xpert Ultra Test, Rifapentine-containing Tuberculosis Treatment Shortening Regimens
  • A phase 2 Open-labelled partially randomized trial that seeks to evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of combinations of Bedaquiline, Moxifloxacin, PA-824 and Pyrazinamide during 8 weeks of treatment in adult subjects with newly diagnosed drug-sensitive or Multi drug resistant, Smear Positive Pulmonary Tuberculosis.
  • I have knowledge of national HIV/AIDS and TB management protocols, good communication, coordination, organization, mentorship and management skills, computer literacy including word processing, excel, internet and power point and good understanding of public health systems, health system strengthening. I also understand client confidentiality and exhibit high level of ethical conduct.
