It’s hard to put into words just how much Mrs. Wood-Bowien has meant to me—not just as a theatre teacher, but as a mentor, role model, and guiding light through some of the most formative years of my life. As a first-generation college student, I had no roadmap. Mrs. Wood-Bowien was there every step of the way, helping me with college applications, encouraging me to take bold steps like founding our school’s GSA, and showing up for me both inside and outside the classroom. She built more than just a theatre program. She built a community. Her classroom was a safe haven, a training ground, and a launchpad. Through her tireless dedication, she cultivated a space where young people could explore their creativity, take risks, and find their voice—not just as performers, but as people. Mrs. Wood-Bowien gave so much of her time, heart, and energy to her students, and the impact she’s had on my life is immeasurable. I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without her support, compassion, and belief in me. Anyone would be lucky to work with her, learn from her, or have her in their corner.

It is an absolute honor to recommend Jen Wood-Bowien, a phenomenal educator, theatre mentor, and guiding force in my life. As my high school teacher and theatre director, Jen created an environment that was not only a place for artistic expression but also a space where students felt truly seen, valued, and empowered. Jen’s passion for theatre extends far beyond the stage. She has a gift for recognizing and nurturing the unique strengths of each student, encouraging them to step outside their comfort zones and embrace their full potential. Her ability to challenge, inspire, and uplift made an undeniable impact on my growth, not just as a performer but as a person. She instilled in me a confidence and resilience that continue to shape my journey long after high school. Beyond her incredible teaching and directing skills, Jen is a mentor who leads with both heart and wisdom. Her dedication to her students, her craft, and the transformative power of theatre is unmatched. She has left a lasting imprint on my life, and I have no doubt that she continues to change the lives of countless others. I wholeheartedly and without hesitation recommend Jen Wood-Bowien for any opportunity that allows her to keep inspiring, teaching, and shaping the next generation of artists and leaders.
