It’s hard to put into words just how much Mrs. Wood-Bowien has meant to me—not just as a theatre teacher, but as a mentor, role model, and guiding light through some of the most formative years of my life. As a first-generation college student, I had no roadmap. Mrs. Wood-Bowien was there every step of the way, helping me with college applications, encouraging me to take bold steps like founding our school’s GSA, and showing up for me both inside and outside the classroom. She built more than just a theatre program. She built a community. Her classroom was a safe haven, a training ground, and a launchpad. Through her tireless dedication, she cultivated a space where young people could explore their creativity, take risks, and find their voice—not just as performers, but as people.
