  • Responsibilities:
  • ● Training of extension officers on matters concerning agronomy practices in avocado and macadamia
  • ● Training of nursery personnel on good agricultural practices and handling of seedlings and cuttings
  • ● Recruitment of farmers into companies special programmes such as demeter, cassava value addition
  • ● Carrying out regular training to farmers in different regions to ensure crop production follows organic
  • guidelines as stipulated under NOP or EU/bio-suisse rules.
  • ● Ensuring that all authorized inputs reach farmers in a timely manner.
  • ● Strict supervision to ensure daily targets are met by the team.

  • ● Under my tenure I was charged with a team of extension officers towards the recruitment of new
  • farmers blocks by region and we hit a farmer membership of 500 farmers all under 2 months.
  • ● I have managed to train field extension officers on disease diagnosis and identification and also what to
  • do in order to control them in order for them to gain full proficiency.
  • ● Under my tenure I have managed to create an orientation programme to new incoming employees to
  • ensure that they are relaxed and proficient enough to do the job.

  • Working in conjunction with the cuttings manager to ensure production in the rooting area is on track.
  • ● Responsible for rooting of over 50 varieties of crops from tissue culture material and cuttings of plants
  • such as cut flowers, herbs and trees e.g chrysanthemums,phlox, veronica, grafted roses, asters,
  • oregano, tarragon, rosemary etc.
  • ● Determining and implementing decisions involving propagation of cuttings in the rooting area
  • such as fertilization, spray and irrigation programs.
  • ● Operating advanced climate control computers to facilitate better rooting of cuttings.
  • ● Creating a clear database and writing reports on plants on the table and submitting them to the
  • propagation manager.
  • ● Supporting and implementation of production trials of different cuttings
  • ● Diagnose pest and disease problems and initiate the right solutions.

  • ● Setting Misting and fogging programs in the climate control computers such as the NMC and Vifra
  • fogging system.
  • Achievements
  • ● Reduced the growing period of chrysanthemum cuttings from 21 days to 15 days by implementing
  • necessary production operations hence meeting the client’s needs.
  • ● Implemented phytosanitary measures and standards in the rooting area leading to reduction of pest
  • and disease risk thus increasing the quality of plants produced.
  • ● Developed rooting program for eucalyptus cuttings with a 85% success rate which led to
  • establishment of a mother stock section of eucalyptus tree within the company.
