I met István Kenesei during my university years in Szeged, and already then I was attracted by his outstanding professional preparation, his extremely colorful personality, open to all topics, and his human mentality showing respect for everyone. Over time, I. Kenesei became an internationally renowned researcher in theoretical linguistics, generative syntax, morphology and semantics. After obtaining the highest academic title available in Hungarian science, he became a professor at a young age, opening up early opportunities for him to hold leadership positions at various levels within the university, and later at the head of the Institute of Linguistics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. As a leader, he demonstrated excellent strategic skills. As a broad-minded scientist of international importance in science, he was able to coordinate well the interests of the institution he led and the employees working in the institution, which he firmly represented in all forums. He always used his wide network of scientific contacts to the benefit of his institution. He uses his outstanding communicative skills brilliantly in both Hungarian and English. An excellent debater. He convinced his audience at many public events of his clear argumentations technique, his pursuit of objectivity and his unconditional adherence to the rules of scientific ethics.
In the meantime, I. Kenesei was elected a corresponding and then a regular member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and he was also accepted into the ranks of the Academia Europaea. However, a scientist who is still active in science today, his outstanding knowledge and the rich experiences of his career make him absolutely suitable for participation in the management board of an international scientific body. I absolutely support István Kenesei's progress in his academic career.
