Job Summary
Family Concepts Center is looking for a Tailor/fashion Designer to support the organization in essential aspects of fashion and design at its Skills Laboratory in Iganga Municipality. S/He will offer vital support to the Concepts Skills Lab, including designing clothing and accessories, creating original designs or adapting fashion trends, and training young people. This is a... full-time job, and the successful candidate will be stationed in Iganga Municipality.
Activities & Responsibilities
On the job, the successful candidate will:
o Direct and coordinate workers involved in drawing and cutting patterns and constructing samples or finished garments.
o Examine sample garments on and off models, modifying designs to achieve desired effects.
o Sketch rough and detailed drawings of apparel or accessories, and write specifications such as color schemes, construction, material types, and accessory requirements.
o Design, make, alter, repair, or fit garments.
o Sew garments, using needles and thread or sewing machines.
o Press or shape articles by hand or machine
o Hang, fold, package, and tag finished articles for delivery to customers.
o Operate steam, hydraulic, or other pressing machines to remove wrinkles from garments and flatwork items, or to shape, form, or patch articles.
o Straighten, smooth, or shape materials to prepare them for pressing.
o Train students in fashion design and related trades as appropriate
Qualifications and Abilities
o Practical expereince in tailoring/fashion design
o Knowledge of textiles, fabrics, ornamentation, and fashion trends.
o Ability to operate or tend sewing machines to join, reinforce, decorate, or perform related sewing operations in the manufacture of garment or nongarment products
o Ability to monitor machine operation to detect problems such as defective stitching, breaks in thread, or machine malfunctions.
o Ability to communicate well with others, from end users to senior management, will be a major advantage, as will an analytical mind and a strong urge to succeed.
o Ability to adapt to new innovations as and when they come along.
