  • Key responsibilities:
  • i) Undertake studies and analysis on national economic and business environment reviews to inform KENAS operations, key projects and programs in Accreditation;
  • ii) Implement the KENAS Research strategy and policies including innovation, and implementation thereof to support the objectives of the Service
  • iii) Research and benchmark on emerging areas of interest in accreditation for the development of new schemes and scopes.
  • iv) Provide input in developing and implementing policies, procedures for scheme development.
  • v) Draft criteria and procedures as guided requirements.
  • vi) Liaise with foreign Accreditation Bodies, Conformity Assessment Bodies, regulators and other stakeholders to share knowledge and trends that inform the development of a new scheme.
  • vii) Advise on effective collaborations and partnerships with relevant bodies such as learning institutions and regulators in the establishment and promotion of schemes.
  • viii) Draft proposals and work plans for piloting of new schemes to enable readiness before integration as mainstream accreditation activities.
  • ix) Coordinate the piloting of new schemes to enable improvement for integration into mainstream accreditation activities.
  • x) Monitors the implementation of work plans for the piloting of new accreditation schemes.
  • xi) Engage stakeholders to identify, screen, sensitize and promote new areas of accreditation.
  • xii) Provide input into the development of operational budgets for the department.
  • xiii) Coordinate the collection, collation, documenting and interpretation of data on accreditation to enhance scheme development.
  • Key Achievements:
  • i. Developed the first Scheme Development Manual and Procedures for KENAS.
  • ii. Member of the Joint ISO-EAC/TMEA regional workshop on the use of conformity assessment activities and tools to achieve better regulatory outcomes, representing KENAS and Kenya in the East African region.
  • iii. Developed and rolled out the KS 1758 scheme and the Occupational Health and safety management system (OHSMS) scope for KENAS, increasing the number of services the organisation provides.
  • iv. Assisted in instigating the formation of a working group that focuses on providing guidelines for Halal certification in the country.
  • v. Assisted in the development of a project concept note on ‘Enhancement of Accreditation Programme in Kenya’ with a total funding of 427,259,200 which got approval by the National Treasury.
  • vi. Drafted and had approved the Scheme Development divisions Strategy Map and Balance Scorecard.
  • vii. Assisted in instigating the formation of a working group with other stakeholders focusing on the development of new management system schemes.
  • viii. Liaised with Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) personnel to ensure KENAS are in the future integrated into the EU-CORSIA project which focuses on capacity building of technical assessors and staff on Green House Gas Accreditation Schemes (The capacity building will prospectively start in November 2022)
