About

The Southern Appalachian Historical Association (SAHA) is dedicated to preserving, exploring, and sharing the rich cultural heritage of the Southern Appalachian region. Based in Boone, North Carolina, we bring history to life through immersive programming, educational experiences, and community events. Our cornerstone production, Horn in the West™, is the nation’s third-oldest outdoor drama and the only one dedicated to the Revolutionary War in the Southern Appalachian mountains. Alongside this iconic production, we operate the Hickory Ridge History Museum, offering guided tours and hands-on experiences that showcase 18th-century Appalachian life. As we approach America’s Semiquincentennial in 2026, SAHA is expanding its programming to include new historical, cultural, and educational events. We are actively seeking partnerships with volunteers, educators, artists, and community organizations who share our commitment to bringing history to life. Whether through volunteer opportunities, collaborative programming, or grant-funded initiatives, we welcome individuals and organizations to join us in celebrating and preserving the stories of the Southern Appalachian region!
