Hector Malaidza is a Social Scientist with extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in development evaluation. He has vast experience in conducting behavioral studies and assessments among various social classes in diverse societies. He is excellent in research design, planning as well as execution of fieldwork. Furthermore, he is great in data management and reporting. He was once a visiting scholar and a researcher in Agricultural Extension and Education at Texas A&M University (USA). He has also served as a Part-time Lecturer and a Project Officer at the University of Malawi, Bunda College. He has been a principal researcher and a team leader in social studies conducted on Development Evaluation, Resettlement, WASH, Gender, HIV & AIDS, Agriculture, Nutrition, Social Justice, Education, and Health, among others. Hector holds a Master of Science Degree in Extension and Rural Development obtained from the University of Malawi, Bunda College. He also holds a BSc. in Agriculture, a Diploma in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management, and advanced-level qualifications in Mechanical Engineering. He has conducted extensive research in social sciences for more than ten years on development evaluation, energy, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), Disaster Reduction and Risk Management, Livelihood, Agricultural Education, and Agricultural Extension among others. Studies conducted include: baseline assessments; feasibility studies; end-project assessments; impact evaluations; ex-ante assessments; and willingness to pay among others. He has a worked as Research Scientist under the Ministry of Agriculture for more than ten years and worked as a dissemination specialist for research output released by the American Institutes for Research (AIR). Hector has also served as a Communication Specialist on a World Bank Research and Development Project called the Agricultural Productivity Program for Southern Africa (APPSA) for more than three years. He has coordinated various development and outreach programs for various organizations. He has also been a lead specialist in conducting socio-economic assessments including adoption studies, tracing of technology dissemination pathways, preference assessments, and participatory variety assessments among others. Hector is also a result-oriented team player, on the other hand, he is a well-groomed leader. He has undergone two world prestigious leadership programs; a two-year McKnight Leadership Program (in Kenya, Tanzania & Mozambique) and a one-year Borlaug United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Fellowship Program (USA). For the Borlaug USDA Fellowship, Hector was the first and only social scientist selected by Washington DC to work on agriculture and rural development. He was selected after outcompeting more than 300,000 applicants worldwide in a one-year rigorous selection process. Hector has also served as a part-time lecturer at LUANAR and a Visiting Scholar at Texas A&M University, Texas, USA. Hector has also contributed material in more than 10 books and has published more than 5 papers in world-known journals as a main author and co-author. His work has mostly focused on Development Evaluation and Social Research Methods.
