"I am writing to enthusiastically support Dr. Hamid M. Abdolmaleky’s search for a suitable position. I am highly impressed by Dr. Abdolmaleky’s intelligence, dedication, hard work, research skills and his scientific contributions over the years as a collaborator and fellow researcher in the field of epigenetics of neurological disorders as well as nutrition and cancer prevention.
While Dr. Abdolmaleky started his career primarily as a clinician in the psychiatric field with university teaching responsibilities, his intellectual curiosity and perseverance to find molecular reasoning propelled him to come to the United States to pursue a research career. He realized that it is necessary to combine his clinical experience with bench research to understand the molecular basis of psychiatric disorders. He put forward a novel hypothesis suggesting that human genes are differentially regulated in response to environmental effects via epigenetic mechanisms in psychiatric disorders.
Dr. Abdolmaleky is a very imaginative and innovative researcher that is accompanied by his excitement and enthusiasm for science and medicine. To his credit, he not only wrote an excellent review articles on neurological disorders, but also successfully conducted original research and published seminal articles in the field. His research career started with a a post-doctoral research training fellowship at Harvard Institute of Psychiatric Epidemiology and Genetics, Harvard University (2001-2007) followed by a joint post-doc research position at the Genetics and Genomics at Boston University. During last two decades he has been working on epigenetic alterations of critical genes in post-mortem brain and saliva samples of patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. As the result of bench research in the last two decades, he has extensive expertise in epigenetic research which include, bisulfite sequencing, DNA methylation microarray analysis, quantitative MSP and multiplex qMSP (MQ-MSP), chromatin immuno-precipitation and quantitative analysis of the histone codes, quantitative analysis of hydroxy methyl cytosine, miRNA expression analysis and IPA pathway analysis. He is also well experienced in cell culture experiments (including stem cells and differentiation of stem cells to diverse cell types such as astrocytes, neurons, oligodendrocytes, and brain organoids), animal studies (mice), shRNA and plasmid synthesis for gene suppression or expression, Western blotting and immunohistochemistry.
In summary, Dr. Abdolmaleky’s unparalleled and significant findings in molecular psychiatry have already brought him recognition and publicity.
