  • Retrospective Study of Impact of Doxycycline Prophylaxis among Cholera household Contacts/Target Population.
  • Based on regions that were worst affected by the cholera pandemic, these areas included, Mathare, Kayole, Kibera, Nakuru, Kawangware, Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Kiambiu in Eastleigh, Majengo, Shauri Moyo and Viwandani.
  • The objective of the study was to compare if the secondary attack rate among household contacts who received a prophylactic dose of doxycycline differs significantly from those who did not receive it.

  • Indicator Development for Surveillance of Urban Emergencies (IDSUE) Project, a study whose objective was to develop indicators that could help different stakeholders detect the onset of emergencies by coming up with thresholds that warn of emergencies in good time for both slow and rapid onset emergencies.

  • The Nairobi Urban Health and Demographic Surveillance System (NUHDSS) Project.
  • A platform that investigates the long-term consequences of urban slum residence on health and socioeconomic outcomes. It also serves as a research tool for monitoring the impact of interventions by the government and other development agencies, for example, the ongoing impact evaluation of HIV/AIDS initiatives.
  • The platform routinely collects data on demographic events (births, deaths, and migrations), health outcomes (morbidity, cause of death through verbal autopsy, child vaccination, and nutrition), and socio-economic outcomes (marriage, education, livelihood, and housing characteristics). Additionally, it also serves as a platform for other specialized studies focusing on urbanization, population, education, family planning, reproductive, and general health conditions of the urban poor.
