  • My coworker confided that they're having an affair with our manager. I'm not involved, but I know the manager controls promotions and bonuses. Do I stay out of it or report it?

What exactly would you be reporting, the illicit relationship or the promotion and bonus speculation? The only 'fact' that you have is the confiding... in you by your coworker, about the manager coworkers illicit relationship. This now becomes a confidential matter that must be handled very carefully. Your primary duty of care, is to continue to be an ear for your coworker, and if you are one of moral principles, guide them away from such a relationship. If the coworker subsequebtly confides that they were forced or threatened with lost of their job, if they did not get sexually involved with the manager, then you would have a legal duty to carefully address, and in the interest of your word against mine, get the coworker to find a way to provide evidence of that fact. Your mentioning of the promotion and bonus remains speculation until you hear directly from your coworker on this specific area. Until then, it is just a moral issue to address with your coworker.  more
