Dr. Md. Hemayatul Islam is a distinguished veterinarian with over 22 years of experience in veterinary disease investigation, research, and production. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Sylhet Agricultural University in Bangladesh, completing a comprehensive one-year internship across government, NGO, and private institutes. He further specialized with a Master of Science in Obstetrics and a Ph.D. from the University of Rajshahi, where his research focused on zoonotic diseases related to reproductive disorders in small ruminants. Dr. Islam was the first to report Q fever, a vector-borne zoonotic disease, in Bangladesh. Dr. Islam has authored an international book titled Retained Placenta of Dairy Cows: Retained Placenta of Dairy Cows with Special Reference to Some Prophylactic Trials and has published 45 research articles in both national and international journals. His notable projects include a Ministry of Science-funded project on Molecular Characterization of Toxoplasmosis in Small Ruminants and collaborative projects with Krishi Gobeshona Foundation (KGF) on pigeon diseases and lamb production systems. Beyond his research, Dr. Islam is dedicated to community service and awareness initiatives. He organizes events, including World Rabies Day, to educate farmers, students, and the general public about zoonotic diseases. He currently leads a project on rabies control through animal birth control at the University of Rajshahi. Dr. Islam has traveled to Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, and India, enriching his international experience and perspective.
