Experience

  • I work as a nanny for a family with a young girl, and I really enjoy it. However, there has been some tension recently due to differing political views with her parents. I’ve been trying to minimize...

Are they directing their political views towards you or trying to pull you into their political discussions? Are they saying or doing things that make... it difficult for you to work with the child? Is the child asking you about what their parents said/ did? Are they saying/ doing things that would be a deal breaker in any other area of your life?
You're an adult. Tell them you love caring for their kiddo, but you are uneasy with the current environment. You can tell them that as is your place of work, you prefer not to discuss politics at work. If it's negatively impacting their child, you can tell them that the recent conversations in the home are leading to difficult conversations with their kiddo. What would change by taking a leave of absence? If you live on site, then find a new family to work with asap, then give this family reasonable notice. It's their home and unlikely they will stop their beliefs full time to accommodate you.
