"Chance Mumukunde participated in the CNA Training Program at the Jamaica Plain Adult Education Program from September of 2023 through June of 2024. I was the Clinical Skills Instructor. There are no bounds to the admiration I have for Chance. Chance is very smart, a great problem solver, a wonderful team player, and has initiative. Beyond that, I found her to be the "adult in the room" - mature and wise, helping the class to coalesce during periods of tension or difficulty. She immigrated here from Rwanda where she was a medical doctor. Despite this, her enthusiasm for learning the clinical skills of a Certified Nursing Assistant was exuberant. I will never forget her joy after giving her first shower to a resident during clinical practice. She did not boast or brag about her status, but enjoyed learning the new skills and learning the ways in which health care in the US differed from those in Rwanda. Chance works to find opportunities to learn more, move her career forward and is persistent in these endeavors. At the same time, she is committed to, cares for, and loves her family and children.

I had the privilege of getting to know Chance during the 2023-2024 academic school year where she was been an exemplary student in my ESOL CNA Training program. As I have gotten to know Chance, I have seen her as an extremely dedicated and thoughtful student. She is dependable, communicative, and always proactive to complete her assignments.

In my interactions and observations of Chance, I have seen tremendous social intelligence that fosters a culture of trust and learning between her and her classmates. She is a quick learner who adapts to different activities easily within the classroom environment, always exhibiting a cooperative spirit. I often see that when she finishes a task or assignment she will provide supportive guidance to her classmates. She is equipped with a toolbox of transferable skills that will enable her to shine in any of her continued studies.

Since I have known Chance, she has shared with me her interest in continuing her to build on her career in medicine.
