"Professor Lee has a long and distinguished career touching many dimensions of teaching, mentoring, and publishing benchmark books and articles.

I first met Professor Lee in 1979. Professor Lee was a Professor of Finance at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. I was a Ph.D. graduate student in economics. I also held a graduate assistantship in the Bureau of Economic and Business Research where Professor Lee was an active contributor. In fact, I was witness to his concern for the success of fellow faculty members and students. He openly shared his ideas, many of which became the basis of publications in leading journals.

Professor Lee has undoubtedly touched the careers of many faculty members and students around the world having specializations in different business disciplines. Anyone who knows Professor Lee must recognize that he has always been a tireless scholar managing a difficult schedule with determination and willingness to inspire and help.

Beyond his roles as teacher and mentor, he has participated in the founding and editing of professional journals, and to this day, serves on the advisory board of many such publications. He is also well-known for his organization of symposia and conferences around the world. His program consistently attracts the best of academic speakers as well as practitioners in the areas of finance.

I would be remiss if I did not place added emphasis on Professor Lee’s concern for the success of graduate students. In my own case, I published my first significant article jointly with Professor Lee in the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, 1987. At that time I was an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Georgia, Athens. Professor Lee was instrumental in my being hired by the University of Georgia, and I know that he has been supportive of several of my colleagues dating back many years in both their professional appointments and publication records.

It is amazing to me and many of my colleagues that Professor Lee and I have been able to stay in contact for forty-five years. I am quite proud to have such an enduring relationship. It is clearly one dimension of evidence of his working indefatigably over many roles and responsibilities.
