About

Ayomikun Pirisola is a highly motivated, and enthusiastic Biochemist that values excellence, hard work, teamwork, service, and lifelong learning with zero tolerance for laziness. Ayomikun did his undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at Adeleke University, Ede, Nigeria, where he graduated as the overall best Faculty graduating student, and as the only first class student in his cohort. He won the award of the overall best performance in the Department of Biochemistry, and Faculty of Science with other achievements during his program. During his National Youth Service year, he was elected as the President of the Community Development Service (CDS), at Etsako East Local Government, Edo State owing to his positive contribution to the growth and development of the society, and leadership acuity. Ayomikun is curious about learning the application of modern technology in the development of drugs from medicinal plants. Furthermore, he is so passionate in using nascent technological advancement to solving real-world challenges in the area of health. His research interest spans Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Biology, and Drug Discovery and Development. In addition to his love for Medicinal Chemistry, Ayomikun is also thrilled about Molecular Biology. He has honed some valuable molecular techniques skills in Spectrophotometer analysis of samples, Polymerase Chain Reaction analysis, Gel Electrophoresis, Sanger's Sequencing, and Western Blotting. During his undergraduate program, he worked on the Comparative Antioxidant Potential of the Fractions of Ethanolic Seed of Piper guineense through which he has acquired some values in in vitro antioxidant power assays including DPPH, FRAP, Total antioxidant capacity assay and Nitric oxide antioxidant power, Statistical analysis of data using Microsoft excel. He is technically skilled in Email marketing, Website and graphic design.

Ayomikun Pirisola

Education
  • Carried out extraction of phytochemicals from African Black Pepper (Piper guineense) using absolute ethanol.
  • Carried out fractionation of Ethanolic Seed Extract of P. guineense using n-Hexane, Dichloromethane, Ethyl acetate and Butanol.
  • Conducted preliminary phytochemical screening on each fractions of the Ethanolic Seed Extract of P. guineense using various qualitative approaches.
  • Evaluated comparative antioxidant potentials of each fraction in vitro for the determination of the most active antioxidant fraction using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylydrazyl (DPPH), Hydroxyl radical scavenging activity, Ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay etc.
  • Carried out 14-day sub-acute toxicity studies on the most active fractions. The overview of the tasks are focused on administration of extract to experimental animals, monitoring and control, harvest of essential organs for histopathological evaluation and biochemical analysis on blood samples.
  • Oral presentation of research results at the Department and Faculty level which earned me 84% (the highest in my cohort).
