  • Hi everyone! I’m a college student and I’m thinking about getting a job as a waiter in a cafe. But my parents are against it, my dad says that kind of job will ruin my resume, like no decent company...

You go and do it! A prospective employer will give you a plus for that, earning and a willingness to step and work, no matter what the job, whilst... you are studying. Shows independence, character strength and willingness to get on. Sorry to say that your father is living 40 years ago with that attitude.
I was the Personnel Manager of a large Shipping Company, before the outfit went along with most British Shipping Firms, out of the Window. I had been acting -part -time for years. During my college study periods, I worked part time as a security guard to top up my bank account- I was a ships officer, but the security guard job did not restrict my promotion upwards. What I learned with people skills etc helped it. I now run my own film company, employ Film Uni students, to give them a break into the industry before they finish college. They work part time in pubs, coffee shops, restaurants doing anything from washing up to bar work and serving at tables. Go to Paddington area. Ex Eastenders regular used to do the lunch time service between periods when she was not needed. Don't be surprised to walk into a pub Cafe Nero or the like and find a known actor/ actress serving you. there are twenty plus actors to each new job out there, and they have to earn!
