  • I expertly perform manual, semi-automated and fully automated laboratory investigations on a rotational basis within the Blood Science Department as required.
  • I regularly review and update standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • I expertly use equipment in accordance with departmental policies and supplier’s instructions.
  • I undertake routine and more complex maintenance procedures on the analysers within the department.
  • I carry out appropriate internal maintenance procedures and maintain maintenance records.
  • I plan and organise my own work within the demands of the team.
  • I expertly perform technical validation of multiple complex sets of results from laboratory investigations ensuring accuracy and precision as specified by laboratory protocols.
  • I measure and monitor the accuracy and precision of laboratory investigations within the Section using appropriate quality control procedures.
  • I carry out corrective action and inform senior staff when the quality control procedures indicate loss of performance.
  • I expertly perform vertical, horizontal and examination audits and other audits in the Laboratory.
  • I expertly perform diagnostic tests by various methods.
  • I expertly use the Pathology Computer System (Healthwise) according to the authorised protocols.
  • I enter results and those obtained by others into Healthwise laboratory management system.
  • I check and correct if necessary, information input by other laboratory staff.
  • I maintain the integrity and accuracy of laboratory databases.
  • I interpret diagnostic laboratory results and take appropriate actions.
  • I expertly authorise and report Laboratory results by adding technical comments, referring significantly abnormal results to senior
  • staff,Informing the requestor of clinically significant and critical results.
  • I ensure that records are kept up to date and stored safely to ensure compliance with

  • I act as mentors for Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Assistant Practitioners.
  • I liaise with National Blood Transfusion Service for the supply of urgent blood products.
  • I liaise with Blood Transfusion Practitioner for inappropriate Blood Transfusion Requests.
  • I expertly provide advice and information to Laboratory, Ward, GP staff and patients regarding samples & sample handling including information on appropriate tests and collection.
  • I expertly deal with result queries where information may be conflicting and difficult to understand.
  • I communicate any relevant information to laboratory colleagues within the section and inform effectively at hand.
  • I keep the workplace and work benches clean and tidy when working.
  • I maintain and promote the professional image of the department of Laboratory of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital(NAUTH)
  • I attend educational and training courses as required by the departmental Manager.
  • I maintain knowledge of advances in relevant scientific areas, through Continuous

  • I maintain and develop skills in Haematology and Blood Transfusion.
