Sisay Tarekegn Bio Sisay Tarekegn is the Executive Director of Eshet Children and Youth Development Organization (ECYDO). He also serves as the Steering Committee Chairperson of the Men Engage Ethiopia Network, Founder and Secretary of the Ybuntu Youth Peacebuilding Alliance, and General Assembly Chairperson for the Population Health and Environment Ethiopian Consortium. He is the Founder and Executive Board Member of both Media Smart Youth Ethiopia (MeSY) and the Ethiopian Productivity Association (EPA). With over 20 years of experience in the non-governmental sector, Sisay holds a bachelor’s degree in management and leadership, a Diploma in Accounting, and a Certificate in Photographic and Video Editing. Sisay is a passionate advocate for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and gender equality. Under his leadership at ECYDO, he has been instrumental in driving positive change and empowering communities. His tireless efforts have led to significant advancements in SRHR policies, programs, and awareness. Throughout his career, Sisay has worked diligently to promote access to comprehensive sexual education, reproductive healthcare services, and gender equality. He has successfully collaborated with local and international stakeholders to develop evidence-based strategies that address the unique challenges faced by boys, girls, and other community members. Sisay's leadership has been recognized through numerous awards and accolades, including the AU Peace Award. In April 2023, the African Union Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department (AU-PAPS), through its Gender, Peace and Security Programme (GPSP) and the Youth for Peace Africa (Y4P) Program, awarded ECYDO for its significant contributions to youth, peace, and security in Africa. His expertise in SRHR, youth leadership, gender equality promotion, men engagement, and youth economic empowerment has made him a sought-after speaker at national and international conferences, where he shares insights and best practices. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Sisay is deeply committed to fostering inclusivity, diversity, and social justice. He actively engages with grassroots organizations, policymakers, and civil society to advocate for policies that protect the rights of marginalized populations.

  • Facilitates an enabling environment & coordinates all functional organs of ECYDO;
  • Coordinates the formulation of ECYDO’s short, medium, and long-term objectives and overall policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines based on the mission and goals stated in the memorandum of the association;
  • Ensures that the mission and strategic goals of ECYDO are well understood by stakeholders and its overall policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines;
  • Ensures that the strategic plan of ECYDO is serving as a basis for program planning and organizational development, and the progress of implementation is properly recorded, reviewed, and reported to the board of management and other stakeholders;
  • Facilitates the formulation of programs, action plans, and budget for the functions of ECYDO in consultation with the board and General Assembly;
  • Represents ECYDO for all legal matters and signs agreements with third parties to meet the organizational requirements;
  • Approves administrative and financial requests within the power delegated to him by the board;
  • Ensures the realization of team spirit, participatory decision-making processes, transparent management, gender sensitivity, cost effectiveness, staff motivation, and the spirit of dedication at all levels;
  • Establishes and maintains relationships and co-operation with the government, donors, charities, and other stakeholders to promote the objectives and build the image as well as the credibility of ECYDO;
  • Ensures that periodic and regular technical and financial reports are prepared and submitted to the board, donors, and concerned government partners;
  • Reviews the reports submitted by the internal auditor and ensures that any system defects are corrected and recommendations are implemented;
  • Takes affirmative action and ensures that gender responsiveness is given adequate attention during employment, promotion, and other human resource development undertakings;
  • Ensures that information on ECYDO and on its operation and experiences is documented and shares its best practices with other development partners;
  • Develop and oversee appropriate publicity and visibility through effective relations with the community, government, and media;
  • Performs other duties assigned by the board of ECYDO.
