Requirements for appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –


At least five (5) years’ experience in related field or served in the grade of Principal Superintending Engineer (Structural or comparable and relevant position in the Public Service for at least three (3) yeas;
Bachelor Degree in civil engineering or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
Registered with the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya (ERB);
A current valid annual Practicing license from the Engineers Board of Kenya;
Corporate Membership with the Institutions of Engineers Board of Kenya;
Attended a Strategic Leadership Development course lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution; and
Demonstrated a high degree of professional competence and administrative capability required for effective planning, direction, control and coordination of structural and civil engineering development programmes


Duties & Responsibilities


Planning, design, supervision of construction, contracts, materials investigation and research related to buildings and other structures like swimming pools;
Direction, Control and supervision of maintenance of various structures;
Control and supervision of staff and financial control in the division;
Administrative matters, procurement, financial control and staff supervision
Ensuring sufficiency of design and contract drawings;
Implementation of the specifications and quality control;
Formulation of design standards and procedures;
Development of research on materials in building/ civil works technology;
Registration of consulting engineers and civil engineering contractors
Coordination of design, supervision of construction and maintenance of public buildings, civil and other public works; and
Supervision of staff working under him/her
