Professional Requirements


Must possess an earned PhD or equivalent Doctoral Degree in Nautical Science/ Port Operations and Management/ Maritime Safety Administration / Naval Architecture or any other relevant Maritime qualification from an accredited   and recognized university a
Hold a Certificate of Competence issued under STCW Regulation II/1 within the meaning of STCW Convention in force, issued by a State Party to the 1978 STCW Convention.
Minimum three (3) years University teaching and research experience since becoming a lecturer.
Must have supervised at least two (2) students at Master level OR one (1) Ph.D. level student to successful completion since becoming a lecturer
Must have at least six (6) articles in refereed journals with minimum impact factor of 0.5 since becoming a lecturer/ One (1) University level book in the candidate’s professional area published plus three (3) articles published in refereed journals with minimum impact factor of 0.5 since becoming a lecturer/ One (1) University level book in the candidate’s professional area published, one (1) book chapter and two (2) articles published in refereed journals with minimum impact factor of 0.5 since becoming a lecturer/ Four (4) articles published in refereed journals with a minimum impact factor of 0.5 plus one (1) patent/innovation since becoming a lecturer.
Show evidence of having mobilized at least a minimum of Kshs.500,000 OR provide evidence of having assisted an institution realize a minimum saving of Kshs.500,000 from your innovation/interventions since becoming a Lecturer
Must be registered and in good standing with a maritime professional body.
Must provide evidence of computer literacy.


OR


Must possess Master Degree in Nautical Science/ Maritime Transport or Port Operations and Management, Maritime Safety Administration or Fleet Operations or Naval Architecture or any other relevant Maritime qualification from a recognized University and must be registerable for a Doctor of philosophy (PhD) or equivalent Doctoral degree qualification.
Hold a Certificate of Competence issued under STCW Regulation II/2 or within the meaning of STCW Convention in force, issued by a State Party to the 1978 Convention
Minimum SIX (6) years in command of a commercial ship, or equivalent operational command as Marine Pilot or maintained a minimum SIX (6) years appointment and professional practice in Flag State or Port State Control Inspections or maritime Safety Audits, Protection and Indemnity (P & I), Marine Surveys and Maritime Audits.
Must be registered and in good standing with a maritime professional body.
Must provide evidence of computer literacy
