Knowledge of, and ability to apply, legal principles, concepts and procedures and terminology for review, examination, and processing of a range of legal documents. Knowledge of various legal research sources, including electronic, and ability to conduct research and analyze information on a wide range of legal issues. Knowledge of the civil law and/or common law legal systems and principles. Education

An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in international law or related field is required. A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Admission to the practice of law in the Member State of the candidate's nationality or in another Member State of the United Nations is required.
Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

Work Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of law, including legal analysis, research and drafting is required. Such experience must be obtained in either a legal office of an international intergovernmental organization, in a law firm, in a legal office of a government, or in a legal office of a court.
Experience with Staff Regulations and Rules, policies, procedures and operations of the United Nations or other similar international organization is desirable.
Experience working in a legal office of an international intergovernmental organization, law firm, legal office of a government or legal office of a court is required.
Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
