Job Purpose:
• To carry out turning and maintenance of rolling mill rolls with precision and safety, ensuring optimal surface finish, dimension, and alignment for smooth rolling operations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operate lathe machines and other turning equipment for roll turning and profiling • Inspect rolls for wear, cracks or surface defects and prepare them for re-machining • Read and interpret technical drawings and dimensions accurately • Maintain tolerances and surface finishes as per rolling mill standards • Set up machines with correct tools, speeds and feeds • Perform grinding and polishing operations if required • Conduct pre- and post-machining inspections to ensure quality • Maintain logs of all machining activities, roll inventory, and maintenance records • Coordinate with maintenance and production teams for roll change schedules • Follow all safety guidelines and maintain a clean work environment
Technical Skills Required:
• Proficient in roll turning operations on conventional and CNC lathe machines • Knowledge of different roll materials – steel, cast iron, etc. • Understanding of roll pass design and rolling mill processes • Ability to measure with precision instruments – micrometers, calipers, dial gauges • Basic troubleshooting and maintenance of lathe machines

Qualifications & Experience
• 3–5 years of experience in roll turning within a rolling mill environment • Hands-on experience in roll shop equipment operation and maintenance
