Key Responsibilities


Acts as the parent to all learners in the boarding house by listening to them and supporting them in a caring manner.
Ensures a delightful home-away-from-home environment that gives all boarders a reason to believe they are in a home environment.
Ensures the safeguarding, good discipline and pastoral well-being of all boarders. Instils a culture of responsibility in all learners in the boarding house.
Ensures learners are on time for school in the morning and all other activities as per the school and boarding schedules.
Liaise with class and subject teachers on matters concerning the welfare, academic, and social development of boarding students.
Ensure boarders are escorted to and from school each day.
Ensures good grooming for the boarders as they go to school in the morning. Ensure the boarders
remain in decent wear while stepping out of the boarding house.
Enforce rules and expectations and follow through with disciplinary action when necessary.
Maintains a clear and updated record of all boarders in the boarding house for accountability purposes. Roll call must be taken at all times, and any absence must be reported immediately.
Provide the Residential Lead with regular updates on student behaviour.
Prepares weekly reports and submits them to the Residential Lead every Monday, covering all issues and aspects of the boarding house.
Work in partnership with the Boarding Team and the Administration to plan and make decisions regarding the Boarding House.
Forward any requisitions and any maintenance requests in the Boarding House to the Residential
Lead promptly.
Serves meals with the boarders to ensure all boarders have taken their meals and forwards any quality issues regarding the served meal to the Residential Lead.
Monitors stress levels, sleep habits, homesickness and other student concerns; spending informal time with the students.
Forwards any improvements and suggestions that the school can make that would enhance the boarding experience for the learners, thus building the numbers.
Ensures that all laundry is done correctly and that students’ clothes are ironed at the right time.
Operates as an effective member of the boarding team, ensuring good communication throughout.
Upholds Health and Safety standards requirements within the Boarding House. Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times. Inspects all boarding house spaces and reports any threats or hazards promptly.
In charge of the support team, taking care of the boarders' living space and ensuring cleaning is done promptly.
Be a visible presence in the boarding house by engaging with the students, checking the state of the student rooms and getting to know the students on a personal level.
During the weekend of supervision, the boarding house parent is required to be on campus when any student is present in the Boarding House.
Attends meetings with all members of the Boarding House on a daily or weekly basis, as needed.
Encourages cleanliness in the Boarding House, including the lounge, cafeteria, bathrooms and bedrooms, and ensures daily and frequent room checks. Ensures all areas are cleaned daily.
Maintains up-to-date with the first aid qualifications and ensures the first aid kit is available and fully stocked at all times.
Engages in annual review to understand strengths and areas for improvement in the Boarding House.
Supervises the study rooms and hall several times each evening from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Follows up on student illness with the nurse on duty and parents when necessary.
Provide students with a structured, supportive environment.
Encourages the co-existence of all races and cultures through understanding and living together.
Remains in the Boarding House for as long as there are students.
Ensures good experiences that will build numbers in the boarding house.
Any other duty that may be assigned by your seniors which relates to your work.

Knowledge, experience and qualifications required:

Bachelor’s degree in Counselling Psychology and Education or related fields.


Safeguarding & Child Protection Training.
Must be willing to live in the school compound.
Relevant Boarding experience in an international school set up. Minimum of ten years of work experience
