Position Summary:

The Kitchen Assistant at Huxton Hotel plays a crucial role in supporting the kitchen operations and ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of the culinary department.
This position involves assisting with food preparation, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards, and collaborating with the kitchen team to deliver exceptional culinary experiences for guests.
The Kitchen Assistant reports to the Head Chef or Kitchen Supervisor.

Responsibilities

Assist in food preparation and cooking under the guidance of the kitchen team, ensuring adherence to recipes, portion sizes, and quality standards.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including workstations, equipment, and storage areas, in compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
Wash, peel, chop, and slice ingredients as directed by the kitchen staff, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Assist in receiving, inspecting, and storing food and supplies, properly rotating stock and monitoring expiration dates.
Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure timely and smooth food service, including plating and garnishing dishes, as needed.
Operate kitchen equipment, such as mixers, grinders, slicers, and ovens, following safety guidelines and instructions.
Support the team in maintaining inventory levels and notifying the appropriate personnel when supplies or ingredients need to be replenished.
Assist in maintaining a clean and hygienic dishwashing area, ensuring proper cleaning and sanitization of utensils, dishes, and cooking equipment.
Follow proper food handling and storage procedures to maintain food quality, prevent contamination, and minimize waste.
Adhere to health and safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling of chemicals and cleaning agents.
Assist with inventory management, conducting stock counts, and documenting inventory levels accurately.
Collaborate with colleagues and communicate effectively to ensure smooth coordination and teamwork within the kitchen.
Assist with the setup and breakdown of food stations and buffet displays for events and functions.
Uphold high standards of cleanliness, organization, and professionalism in the kitchen area.
Attend training sessions and meetings to enhance skills and stay updated on food safety practices and culinary techniques.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess an SSCE qualification with 1 - 3 years relevant work experience.
Previous experience as a Kitchen Assistant or in a similar role is preferred.
Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment operation.
Understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations, including proper hygiene practices.
Ability to follow instructions, recipes, and portion sizes accurately.
Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects.
Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with the kitchen team.
Detail-oriented with a focus on cleanliness, organization, and attention to detail.
Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
Basic math skills for measurements and portioning.
Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities in a dynamic culinary environment.
