TRADE UNIONISM IN KENYA. DANCING ON THE PRECIPE.
There is great concern amongest Kenya Trade Unions that apart from the fact that most of the registered Trade Unions, over twenty in number, are neither affliated to either of the existing Two Trade Union Centers, nor granted latitude by these centers to freely exercice their democratic rights and mandate as was mandated them in law, on the acquisition of their respective legal entities/personalities, a position which is by design, and which has now been extended to individual Trade Unions that appear not to align or subscribe to the policies and world view of either of the existing centers. As we speak today the 28th of October 2024 over six Trade Union whose registered offices are domiciled on one building in the City of Nairobi have had their offices shut by way of hamering wooden bars on the doors of each of the said union offices allegedly over reasons boadering on rent issues. This position has been aided and abeted by those who have been on the forefront in stiffling the independence, democratic space and fundamental freedoms and liberties of the Kenya Workers through the said unions in articulating for and on behalf of their members. Someone needs to speak loudly enough for these Kenya Trade Unions for the leadership that currently obtains/subsists has some issues with the political establishment, so that the ability by this leadership to competently and independently front this worker's position that is on the attack has considerably been negated and or compromised. Today, there are Bills that have been prepared by the Executuive to be tabled in the National Assembly and whose aim is to Gag, Stifle and Suffocate the worker's fundamental Freedoms affirmed in the Supreme Law The Constitution of Kenya 2010, yet, the said workers, through their respective Trade Unions are unable to mashall the numbers and unity that is requisite to competently address and counter this move. This is owed to the apparent disunity amongest the Trade Union leaders caused, propergated and maintained by vested and sectarian interest, and whose import has been to militate against the effective evolution of Kenya Trade Unionism and the Trade Union Movement. Someone!! Please help Kenya Trade Unions cultivate Unity and Oneness for there is Streangth in Unity yet divided we become so vulnerable.
