Responsibilities


Support research broadly on urban energy but specifically on consumption pattern of energy in the informal settlements and peri-urban areas.
Develop a stakeholder matrix of key actors within the energy sector in Sub Saharan Africa.
Support interaction with country offices for development of project concept notes and any other interactions.
Prepare discussions, webinar and other forms of meeting related to urban energy in the region.
Support the reporting and communication efforts of the office with liaison of field offices and the global office.
Undertake any other duties as may be assigned.


Qualifications/special skills


Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:
Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher),
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent),
Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Preferred areas of study: Currently enrolled and have attended University courses in the last 12 months inclusive of having completed at least two years of undergraduate studies or have recently graduated in the last 6 months in urban planning, environmental management, energy, development studies, Economics, or related field. In addition, successful applicants are expected to have demonstrated ability in one or more areas listed below: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
Ability to summarize and analyze technical urban and housing content for various audience
Strong communication skills in English, knowledge in French is desirable.
Good understanding of new and evolving technologies and digital platforms;
Advanced knowledge of standard software packages, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud etc. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
