Job Purpose

The role of Advocacy and Communications Officer is to increase the external footprint and visibility of International Alert Nigeria by maximizing the dissemination, coverage, and impact of our work, and by promoting our programs, initiatives, events and activities among policy makers, donors, the media, and the public.

The postholder provides an oversight of internal and external... communication processes and products. S/He prepares a wide range of written materials, presentations, and possibly audio-visual material for local and international audiences, in line with ethical and branding guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities


Drafts, edits and formats quarterly updates and annual reports in English and and assures that these reports are developed, printed and distributed on time; uses Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Publisher and other relevant software to create reports, brochures, videos, logos, and so on in collaboration with the project Managers.
Plan and execute diverse and complex events.
Plan and implement public outreach efforts, including public speaking appearances, press briefings and special events.
Create compelling case studies and stories highlighting International Alert Nigeria  collaboration with CSOs partners, and Nigerian Government and communities. 
Develop and disseminate via any/ all relevant channels compelling content regarding International Alert Nigeria  work with their communities.
Design and publish annual reports – soft and hard copies - targeting different audiences.
Manage multiple projects under tight deadlines with the highest level of accuracy and efficiency. 
Negotiate, implement, manage, and evaluate media placements
Manage content and platforms (on-line, print, radio, etc.) to effectively reach all diverse stakeholder groups: Communities in which we serve, Government of Nigeria , Donors, Local Non-Governmental Organizations/Embassies, Nigerian citizens, Staff, policymakers, influencers, International Alert headquarters to tell the Nigerian country Office story and to satisfy International Alert Strategic Goals.
Draft and implement social media campaigns to drive the visibility of International Alert Nigeria  and its knowledge products, while growing the online community.
Day-to-day management of International Alert Nigeria  social media channels.
Weekly content development (engaging text mapped to appropriate visuals, blog posts, etc.) for all social media channels and websites, including timely and regular updates.
Using video editing and design software to cull engaging excerpts/soundbites from commissioned videos and livestreamed footage.
Drafting social media kits for events.
Comments section and inbox moderation, and subscriber engagement.
Monthly monitoring and reporting to track online performance.
Proposing online campaigns to align with events and international days.

Essential Requirements


Bachelor’s degree in communications, Business/Marketing, International Development, or a related field
Minimum three years of demonstrated professional experience in communications, content development, digital content creation/design, and social media.

The Senior Project Officer will lead the planning, coordination, effective implementation, and monitoring of International Alert’s peacebuilding, governance, and climate change project in Benue or Sokoto State. Duties and Responsibilities

Effective implementation of project activities 


Ensuring project strategies and activities are implemented in full compliance with the project document in collaboration with the partner under the guidance of the Project Manager.
These will include to organize project activities and preparation of both narrative reports and expense justifications, review partners’ narrative reports, preparation and compiling case studies and stories of changes for dissemination and learning.
Supporting all communications and outreach/field activities with focal points (staff from project partners) whenever necessary.
Preparing and updating joint work plans between International Alert and partners, progress reports as well as other reports as may be required by the organization.

Day-to-day tracking/monitoring of project progress


Supporting the development of action plans and work plans.
Supporting in designing and implementing project monitoring plans and tools, to ensure the project outcomes are tracked and achieved on time, to quality standards and within agreed scope, in line with Alert’s project management systems.

Essential requirements


Bachelor ’s degree level in development studies, peace and conflict transformation studies , project management or related social science field
7 years’ experience of project management at an NGO, with including ability to collate, analyse and report data in a clear and coherent manner and activity budget development.

Background

Nigeria’s security landscape continues to be shaped by persistent violent conflict, organised criminality, insurgency, and... localised armed groups operating across various regions. While several disarmament, demobilisation, and reintegration (DDR)-related interventions have been implemented at different levels, these efforts have remained fragmented and uncoordinated. As a result, outcomes have been inconsistent, and many former combatants and affected communities remain underserved or unsupported.

In response to this gap, a process has been initiated to harmonise existing DDR approaches and develop a National DDR Framework that is strategic, inclusive, evidence-informed, and reflective of Nigeria’s regional realities. This process includes regional consultations, expert technical work, stakeholder engagement, policy analysis, and synthesis of past efforts to produce a coherent national vision and actionable roadmap for DDR programming and implementation.

To ensure successful execution of this ambitious and time-sensitive initiative, a Project Management Specialist is being contracted to provide coordination, performance oversight, quality assurance, and timely delivery of outputs from a team of technical experts and facilitators. This role is pivotal to ensuring that the project delivers high-quality results aligned with its strategic objectives, on schedule and within scope.

Purpose of the Role

The Project Management Specialist will be responsible for the operational oversight and quality management of all deliverables and activities related to the development of the national DDR framework. Working under the guidance of the National Team Lead, and in close collaboration with technical experts across multiple thematic areas, the Specialist will provide day-to-day management, facilitate smooth coordination, ensure timely and high-quality deliverables, and serve as a focal point for progress tracking and reporting.

This role also ensures the entire project cycle—from design to delivery—follows a quality-assurance lens, safeguarding International Alert’s standards and supporting the broader mission of transformative peacebuilding impact.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Quality Assurance


Lead the development and implementation of quality assurance frameworks, tools, and procedures for project delivery.

The initiative emphasises strategic alignment with international DDR standards while remaining responsive to local socio-political realities and community needs.

Evidence generation is a cornerstone of this initiative, underpinning the development of harmonised strategies, informed decision-making, and adaptive programming. To this end, the project seeks a seasoned Research Expert I to lead and coordinate technical assessments and evidence-generation processes essential to the effectiveness of DDR planning and implementation.

Purpose of the Assignment

The Research Expert I will provide technical leadership in designing and executing high-quality research and field assessments that feed into both the strategic and operational pillars of the DDR initiative. The National DDR Harmonisation Project aims to develop a comprehensive, nationally aligned, and internationally consistent DDR framework for Nigeria. The initiative supports the design and... implementation of inclusive, evidence-informed policies and practices that respond to the needs of disengaged individuals, affected communities, and the broader peace and security architecture.

A critical component of the project is the generation of robust, actionable evidence through strategic assessments—including socio-economic profiling, trauma mapping, reintegration readiness, opportunity analysis, and conflict sensitivity reviews. These assessments will feed directly into policy dialogue, programme design, and adaptive learning processes.

To strengthen the strategic research function, a Research Expert II is required to support the overall design, interpretation, and translation of research findings—ensuring their relevance to policy and programming. Ensure that the strategy includes provisions for evidence generation, tracking reintegration outcomes, and independent evaluation.
Align the MEL approach with both national M&E guidelines and international standards, ensuring interoperability with DDR information systems.


Capacity Strengthening and Policy Alignment


Support national stakeholders in understanding and applying strategy content through policy briefings, user manuals, and guidance notes.
Train government officials, security actors, and civil society partners on policy implementation, MEL frameworks, and coordination mechanisms.
Advise on integrating the DDR strategy into broader national policies (e.g. National Security Strategy, National Action Plan on PVE, justice sector reforms).
Identify linkages between state and Federal level amnesty and DDR efforts.


Technical Support and Advisory


Serve as advisor to the National Team Lead on matters of policy coherence, results, institutional architecture, and strategic priorities.
Contribute to the preparation of legislative and regulatory proposals that may emerge from the DDR strategy development process.
Review and integrate technical inputs from consultants working on legal reform, community reintegration, data systems, and gender mainstreaming.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education


Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Public Policy, Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science, International Development, or related discipline.


Experience


At least 8 years of experience in policy development, monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, peacebuilding or post-conflict recovery.
Proven experience leading the policy and strategy frameworks, preferably in DDR, PVE, or transitional justice.
Demonstrated expertise in designing monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems for complex peace/security or development programmes.
Sound knowledge of international DDR frameworks (UN IDDRS, AU DDR, World Bank's conflict programming).
Familiarity with Nigerian policy and governance systems, or similar complex political settings.
Excellent facilitation, writing, and communication skills.
