Objectives

The broad objectives of the program are to:


Provide students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank.
Provide the Bank with a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment purposes.
However, applicants should not expect the internship to lead to immediate employment with the Bank.

The fields of study from which Interns shall be selected must be within the Job Families of the Bank: Agriculture, Human Capital, Engineering, Investment, Operations management & programming, Sustainability, Procurement, Delivery & Performance Monitoring, Risk Management, Finance, Capacity Development, Governance, Natural Resource and Knowledge Management, Economics, Statistics and Data Management, Human Resources Management, Information Management Technology, Real Estate Management and Services, Translation and Interpretation, Communication, Legal, Corporate Governance & Advisory Functions or any other field of study that the Bank may deem relevant to its operations.
Special consideration shall be given to students who are working on projects which have a direct bearing on the mission of the Bank.


Timeline for Session 1 of the 2025 Internship Program:


Session 1 of the 2025 Internship Program will commence in January 2025. 


Terms and Conditions:


Internships shall be granted to each candidate for a period not less than three (3) months and not more than six (6) months. The internship is authorized only once for any candidate.
Selected interns will perform their internship either remotely or on-site depending on the needs of their respective hiring units. Remote interns are expected to have access to a personal computer, reliable internet connection and a conducive living environment that facilitates smooth and uninterrupted remote working.
On-site interns shall be responsible for their air travel (in case of) to and from the Bank’s location as well as their upkeep.
The Bank will use reasonable efforts to assist the concerned interns in obtaining their entry and residence visas.
Eligible Interns will benefit from a medical insurance coverage paid by the Bank during the period of their internship. 
Eligible interns will be provided with a monthly stipend.


Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:


Must have attained the age of majority in their country of nationality or origin and be not more than Thirty (30) years old at the time of commencement of the internship program.
Be currently enrolled in a master’s level degree program in a recognized public or private educational institution of higher learning.
The candidate can apply for an internship within one (1) year of having obtained such a degree.
Be nationals of the member Countries of the African Development Bank.
Provide a letter from their school confirming their enrollment or a copy of the above-mentioned Degree. Applicants must be fluent in at least one of the Banks’s two working languages (English or French).
Be able to use the Bank's standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); knowledge of SAP is desirable.

The Complex

The Vice-Presidency, Technology and Corporate Services (TCVP) is responsible for the design, development and delivery of efficient, people-centered, client-oriented, corporate services and information-technology solutions to ensure overall institutional effectiveness in all aspects of the Bank’s corporate services.
The Complex provides leadership in the... formulation and implementation of Bank’s strategies, policies, controls and approaches on organizational information technology systems, software applications, cyber security, IT support and infrastructure systems.
The Complex is also responsible for management of the Bank’s real estate assets, institutional procurement, language services and business continuity.

The Hiring Department

The Language Services Department is responsible for ensuring quality translation of major Bank documents primarily into English and French, but also into Arabic and Portuguese, as well as other languages as required; providing high standard interpretation in English and French or Arabic and Portuguese, editing documents meant for publication and ensuring quality; analyzing and evaluating strategic choices and making relevant recommendations on the use of English and French within the Bank Group; reviewing, updating and implementing practical guidelines and procedures for the efficient delivery of language services; and assisting partner organizations eliciting the Bank’s assistance in establishing, restructuring or improving their language services; promote bilingualism so as to enhance communication among staff and with the Bank’s clients and partners.

The Position

The Director for the Language Services Department reports to the Vice President, Technology and Corporate Services, and is key to the attainment of the Bank’s transformative agenda for Africa by ensuring the Bank’s languages services facilitate the communication among staff; and between staff, partners and stakeholders.
He/she will ensure that there is a sound translation and interpretation strategy and effective and quality process regarding the translation of Bank’s documents into the Bank’s official languages and any other language.
He/she should also ensure that the Bank’s meetings and conferences are duly interpreted.
To that end, the Director has the overall responsibility to plan, organize, direct and control the activities of the Department.

Key Functions

The Director plans, organizes, directs and controls the activities of the department whose functions are to provide translation, interpretation, and editing services, and promote multilingualism to enhance communication among staff and with the Bank’s clients and partners.

Amongst others, he/she will perform the following duties:

Manage a department that provides translation and interpretation services to the Bank.
Set objectives, formulate policies, establish priorities, define and monitor the key performance indicators of the department.
Plan, organize and coordinate all operational language activities in the Language Services Department.
Ensure that the department produces a high-quality output within available resources, by making the best use of its human, financial and technological assets, and by monitoring and enforcing efficiency targets.
Ensure effective communication between the Management and staff of the Bank, the authorities of member countries, officials from other organizations.
Promote and encourage, through training and sensitization, staff efforts to use both official languages of the Bank, to strike a reasonable balance in the production of documents in French and English.
Supervise budget preparation and follow its execution, and advise senior management on the budgetary and financial impacts of the department’s operations.
Monitor best practice in the industry and, as appropriate, liaise with counterparts in other organizations;
Promote the sharing of best practice across the translation, editorial and interpretation areas.
Represent the Language Services Department as needed in bank-wide working groups.
Determine the appropriate organizational structure of the department, assigning staff and material resources based on priorities and workload, coordinating and evaluating the work of staff and providing guidance on work problems.
Assess the training needs of staff in the Department, monitor and evaluate their performance, and recommend personnel actions to the Vice President.
Perform language services when appropriate and necessary.

Competencies (Skills, Experience and Knowledge)

Hold at least a Master's Degree in Translation or Interpretation or related disciplines.
Have a minimum of ten (10) years of extensive and progressive experience in a similar organization, five (5) years of which must be at a managerial level.
Demonstrated ability to take prudent business risks and make effective, timely and well-determined decisions.
Proven ability to build and lead motivated and committed teams across functional boundaries, and utilize talent and expertise of team members in a productive way.
Strong managerial, interpersonal and communication skills; strong negotiating skills; ability to think strategically.

Description

The African Bank Development is seeking the services of two consultant for a period of six months (6 months) to undertake a project: Development of HR Processes in FIORI.
The current Project is a component of the Project “PTVP HR Processes Reengineering and Automation Project” approved by the Information Security Steering Committee.

The Objectives of the Development of HR... Processes in FIORI are therefore:

FIORI Implementation of Existing Services in SAP WebDynpro ESS/MSS
SAPUI5 Development of HR Custom Applications and Deployment in FIORI Portal
Technical documentations of the implementation
Training of HR Super Users

The consultants will undertake the following duties:

Gather the Bank’s requirements.
Design and develop the solution based on users’ specifications.
Perform any SAP ABAP, UI5 & Fiori developments based on users’ specifications.
Deployment of SAP Standard Fiori apps and development of SAP Custom UI5 applications and extension of SAP standard Fiori applications according to user needs.
Follow up with the users and other key Bank staff in carrying out the quality assurance tests, and effect requested amendments and corrections. Provide the required documentation.
Ensure seamless integration to existing enhancements and standard SAP modules already in within the Bank.
Develop related workflows and alert warnings for the approval processes.
Design and develop any required Interfaces to enable proper data exchange between SAP S/4 Hana and others Non SAP systems using BAPI, PI PROXIES, WEB SERVICES or any SOA integration tools.
Ensure knowledge proper transfer to Bank’s Staff.
Perform any SAP ABAP development based on users’ specifications.
Resolve any defect occur in S/4 HANA after the migration of ECC6 to S/4 HANA

Required Skills and Competencies

At least Master / Engineering Degree in Computer Sciences or related field.
5+ years of experience in ABAP Development experience within SAP HR module.
Minimum 3 years of experience with FIORI, UI5, OData, NetWeaver gateway and hands-on experience in Business Application Studio or BTP environments.
Excellent knowledge and skills on HTML5, UI5, Java Scripts, CSS and MVC concepts.
Completed at least 3 projects implementing SAP Fiori Applications using SAP Fiori based on SAPUI5, OData and Net weaver Gateway in Central hup environment.
Masters Fiori Development Best Practices for SAP UI/UX in UI5 based development
Strong knowledge of ABAP and SAP HCM modules like ESS, MSS, PA, OM, Time and Payroll and integration with other SAP modules.
Minimum 3 years with development experience ABAP Object Oriented Programming, ABAP Web DynPro, ALE, IDOC, BADI, BAPI, User Exit, Data Dictionary, custom Info Types management, FPM - Floorplan manager, HR processes and forms.
Excellent knowledge of SAP configuration and development methods and disciplines
Understanding of relational databases, data storage, and SQL concepts. Understanding of data structures and data objects.
Certification in SAP developments (ABAP or FIORI/UI5) is desirable.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French or English is a must.
Excellent presentation skills.
Great problem solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills
Experience in designing/architecting complex solutions
Excellent in documenting specification and technical solutions
The Consultant should have proven experience in designing, developing and implementing a major business processes reengineering within an international institution.
Knowledge of the African Development Bank and its operations would be a plus.
Experience with HR systems would be an added advantage

Establishment of the Short List

A shortlist of three to six individual consultants will be established at the end the request of expressions of interest. The consultants on the shortlist will be judged on the following criteria on the basis of their updated resume.
