The University of Tampa Athletic Department is offering an exciting opportunity to work as a part-time academic mentor within the office of Athletic Academic... Support and Student Services. Mentors must be able to commit to working the traditional academic school year (busiest times are August – May), dedicating 20-25 hours per week.

The UT Athletic department provides comprehensive academic support for our student‐athletes, including tutoring and mentoring, as well as programming aimed toward student welfare and development. Individuals interested in this opportunity would have a pivotal role in the overall management of a student athlete’s career, support them in their daily academic and personal development, with the goal of retention and graduation. This position allows participants to gain exposure and hands-on experience which will prepare them for a full-time position in an academic and/or athletic administrative environment.

The position requires an organized, personable, flexible, and assertive person, who possesses ideal communication and time management skills. Individuals will be expected to aid in keeping students on task, developing organizational and time management skills, and assisting with writing skills, note‐taking, and study skill development. Additionally, this individual may assist the Assistant AD with special projects including maintaining office data, developing reports, and producing mass content aimed at student-athlete population through software platforms such as Workday, Navigate, Vector, and Teamworks.

Job Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree
· Experience working with at‐risk student populations within an academic setting
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure
· Strong customer service skills, along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of student athletes, coaches and staff.
· Excellent interpersonal, oral, written communication, and computer skills (MS programs).
· Highly organized and ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
· Willingness to embrace new technologies

Preferred Qualifications:
· Master’s Degree
· Experience working with NCAA student‐athletes
· Mentoring experience
· Familiarity with NCAA eligibility rules
· N4A Member

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Meet weekly/bi-weekly with assigned caseload of student‐athletes via face-to-face meetings.
· Assist students with personalized learning and achievement plans emphasizing time management and study strategies
· Connect and encourage students to utilize on-campus resources
· Maintain student records and generate regular academic progress reports for Academic and Coaching staff(s)
· Assist Academic Support Staff with daily tasks in areas
o Provide general information to undergraduate students about academic-related issues, such as graduation requirements, academic policies/procedures, course planning, and registration.
o Registration and schedule planning for first-year and transfer students
o Schedule and track tutor appointments and generate weekly tutor reports
o Student-Athlete Advisory Committee meetings, programming, and community service events
o Student-athlete welfare and development planning and programming
o Class checking when necessary
· Contribute to student success and retention initiatives
· Maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA guidelines regarding student data and correspondence
· Maintain flexible evening and weekend hours

The Department of Communication in the College of Arts and Letters at The University of Tampa invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with teaching and research interests in business and professional communication to begin in August 2027. The total teaching load is 3 courses (4 credits each course = 12 total credit hours) per semester over two 15-week semesters per academic year.
This position will contribute to both the undergraduate Communication and Speech Studies (CSS) program and the graduate Master of Professional Communication (MAPC) program. Desired qualifications include readiness to teach undergraduate courses such as SPE 200 Oral Communication, SPE 208 Speech for Business and the Professions, and SPE 308 Group Communication, along with MAPC graduate courses, as well as a willingness to potentially serve in a programmatic leadership role during the pre-tenure process, such as SPE 208 Course Director or Center for Public Speaking Director.
Faculty are expected to be teacher-scholars informed by their area of study when teaching and mentoring students. The ideal candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching, have proven experience engaging students in learning by doing, and be available to have teaching availability during the day and the evenings. Tenure-track faculty are additionally expected to maintain a productive scholarly agenda and be engaged on campus.
The Department of Communication is the largest in the College of Arts and Letters, with four undergraduate majors: Communication and Speech Studies; Journalism; Advertising and Public Relations; and Communication and Media Studies. The position sits specifically within the Communication and Speech Studies program and the hiring committee is composed of primarily CSS faculty members. The department also contributes to two interdisciplinary graduate programs, the MA in Professional Communication and the MA in Social and Emerging Media.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. or terminal degree in Communication or another closely related field by the time of appointment.
