Tasks


Provide technical expertise to support the development and implementation of a disability-inclusive Economic Empowerment strategy across focus countries.
In close collaboration with the Technical Advisory Team, support country teams in planning and executing aligned, high-quality EE programs.
Ensure coherence and quality in EE programs, incorporating inclusive practices and promoting research-based innovation.
Together with subject matter experts on Disability Inclusion in Business Development, Agricultural Systems, Inclusive Employment, Community Development, train and support Light for the World staff on Economic Empowerment principles, offering technical guidance and resources.
Build strategic partnerships with global networks, funders, and stakeholders to promote inclusive economic empowerment.
Represent Light for the World in key forums and advocate for EE policy changes.
Collaborate on research and documentation efforts to demonstrate impact and improve program approaches.


Requirements


Academic degree in Development Economics, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Agriculture, or a related field.
Minimum of 7-10 years experience in designing and implementing programs that prioritize economic empowerment for individuals with disabilities.

The Career Mentor will be responsible for the following:


Conducting at least 8 individualised mentoring sessions with each mentee over the 6-month period. Sessions can be either virtual or in-person depending on both the mentor and mentee's availability.
Prepare for each session by reviewing the mentee's progress and any career plans they have developed through the Accenture... platform.
Provide tailored guidance based on the mentee’s career aspirations and help address identified skill gaps.
After each meeting, mentors will report the mentee’s progress to the Project Manager using the provided progress reporting template. This will help track the mentee’s growth and identify any ongoing challenges.
Continuously support the mentee throughout the 6-month engagement, offering feedback and advice after each session to ensure consistent progress.


Reporting Structure


Mentors will report directly to the Project Manager, providing updates on mentee progress after each session.
Reports should be submitted after every session using the provided progress template.


Target Audience

The career mentorship will target young people with and without disabilities undergoing job readiness skills within the RISE program.

Proposed Timelines

The expected duration of the engagement is 6 months.

Roles and responsibilities

Light for the World and TO50 Partners

The TO 50 partners, including UDPK, will be responsible for designing and validating the evaluation, establishing the research questions and approach, publishing terms of reference and selecting the best applications from external consultants to complete the evaluations. The partners will then review inception reports jointly... with the consultants, agree on any suggested changes to approach and provide clarification before approving the evaluation.

During the evaluation, the partners will mobilize respondents, facilitate logistical support, and provide inclusive disability training to research assistants or translation services for respondents who are deaf or deafblind. On receipt of the finished product, the partners will provide feedback and request for alterations to the consultant before accepting the finalized piece of work. Partners will then hold a dissemination workshop.

The Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) will be involved in the development of the evaluation through to the dissemination. UDPK will support project design and be able to review the terms of reference, consultant proposals and inception reports as standard. Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) will then form part of the key informants for the evaluation. Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) will be asked to validate the findings of the evaluation and will then attend the dissemination forum where the consultant will present the findings of the evaluation.

In summary Light for the world and the TO50 partners will;


Provide the consultant with the project documents and other relevant learning materials generated.
Guide the consultant on the delivery of the assignment.
Validate and approve the consultancy deliverables as developed by the consultant.
Organize the dissemination forums as indicated in the MEL plan.
Pay the assignment fee.


Consultant

The consultant will be required to submit a technical and financial proposal aligned with the posted terms of reference. The successful consultant will then submit an inception report detailing the planned evaluation. At minimum, the evaluation will provide the following, although consultants are invited to suggest additional or alternative documentation:

In close collaboration with the Head of the Disability Inclusion Advisory Unit and the rest of the team, provide training and support to a growing pool of Disability Inclusion Facilitators; To coach them on specific aspects of training, etiquette, self-expression, communication skills, understanding diverse disabilities, and the business case for inclusion.
To be the principal coach for Disability Inclusion Facilitators, support them with preparation of their career in disability inclusion and beyond, coaching them on how to conduct professional training and ensuring continuous quality and consistency of all the activities of the pool of Disability Inclusion Facilitators by monitoring, facilitation of continuous learning and refresher trainings.


Training material and tool development


To lead and provide input to co-creation processes, building on principles of human centered design and gender responsive principles; to provide content to training manuals and tools; Proactively identify the need for additional training materials and tools, and support the development of those.


Inclusive Programming and Safeguarding


Develop tailored interventions addressing business development, record-keeping, and formalization challenges faced by women and persons with disabilities in both projects.
Ensure safeguarding compliance and foster a "Do No Harm" culture in all programme engagements.
Collaborate with teams to create interventions addressing gender disparities in e-waste entrepreneurship, access to funding, and market linkages.
Support implementation of inclusive mentorship and coaching programs that cater to the unique needs of women and persons with disabilities.

The MERLA Officer will be responsible for assessing programme effectiveness to improve evidence and quality of all country programmes. This will include process and tools development; data collection, analysis, and reporting; learning &reflection management; and evaluations support. He will support the MERLA Manager to build the capacity of staff in the use, adaptation and reporting of programme... results using Light for the World’s M&E tools and processes and will be active in identifying learning opportunities from the country programmes and partners’ work that demonstrate impact. Coordination of M&E functions and processes in project design and implementation


Strengthening intervention logics for projects and influencing through refining the logic between interventions and results and identifying appropriate indicators to track progress and measure results across chain levels.
Lead the development and use of relevant data collection tools for programs and projects across the country including data analysis and visualization.
