YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning

Provide expertise in monitoring and evaluation planning and methodology
Provide leadership to our work in building evidence for Justice Defenders’ legal education, training and practice within Kenya and contexts.
Provide oversight of all aspects of our legal education, training and practice indicators.
Set Justice Defenders’ road map for evidence-based decision making.
Implement a data-driven approach, creating a core analytical capability, and building a culture of high commitment to excellence across Justice Defenders.

Day-to-Day Monitoring and Evaluation Activities

Design and Implement monitoring systems and tools
Developing data collection tools
Monitor country office activities, outputs and progress towards anticipated results
Work with data platforms, databases and select technologies to capture and organize data
Train staff in monitoring and evaluation processes and provide ongoing coaching
Conduct and/or provide support towards data quality assessments

Analysis and Reporting

Determining data analysis procedures and use of quantitative or qualitative analysis tools
Cleaning, sorting, categorizing and organizing data
Analysing quantitative and/or qualitative data and summarizing findings
Drive the production of engaging dashboards and reports for internal and external stakeholders
Ensure our use of data is aligned with our values and honours those we work alongside

Knowledge Management

Provide mentoring and training within our team, and create a nurturing environment that encourages the growth and development of colleagues in their work relating to evidence

YOUR PROFILE
We are looking for candidates who possess the following skills, competencies and experiences:

Background in evidence/data quality control and data analysis
Recognised track-record in building evidence / monitoring and evaluation (ideally within a law firm or criminal justice organisation)
Experience of setting up and leading high performing teams
Advanced skills in qualitative and / or quantitative methodologies and analysis (and use of relevant analysis tools such as MaxQDA, Nivivo, R, STATA etc)
Outstanding written output and the ability to produce documents in a timely manner and with eye for detail

We are seeking a legal practice manager to lead and develop our practice program into a world-class criminal law practice. This role will specifically lead to shifting the organisation’s practice to a law firm operation and standard. Primarily, this position will ensure that our clients receive quality services.  This includes ensuring that the operations of the legal offices are effective and... efficient and that the operating model is easily transferable from prison to prison, and to a community law office.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure that Justice Defenders has a viable and world class criminal law practice.
Establish a robust quality assurance framework for the casework and experience of clients in Justice Defenders legal Offices.
Draw up a road map for Justice Defenders to establish a similar service in other criminalized community such as refugee camps or slum.
Ensure lessons are learnt and widely shared and validate across the organisation.
Represent the interests of Justice Defenders legal services programme in terms of litigation and the administration of justice, within the organization and externally, and support the legal services team to ensure government offices (prison Officers, State Attorneys) take necessary action.
Develop and manage an annual budget and plan, in liaison with the Country Director, and finance team.
Lead and/or contribute to the local fundraising strategy including making funding applications, building relationships, reporting /presenting to Donors, Kenya Senior Management Team and the Boards of Trustees.
Provide supervision, mentorship and guidance to the legal services team.
Offer Legal Representation to Justice Defenders clients in court.

YOUR PROFILE
We are looking for candidates who possess the following skills, competencies and experiences:

An Honours Degree in Law with a practicing certificate in Kenya.
Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
Enrolled Advocate of the High Court with 8 years post admission
At least five years’ work experience in criminal litigation and at least 5 years in a management/supervision role
Experience in heading and managing a legal practice department.
Understanding of, and commitment to, the aims of providing legal services to vulnerable groups.
Awareness of current local social and legal issues in the criminal justice system.
Experience in conducting strategic, complex and high-profile litigation to a high standard.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Support recruitment processes, including developing and posting vacancy announcements, tracking and reporting on recruitment processes, screening and short-listing applications, interviewing and conducting back ground screening and reference checks for final job candidates.
Prepare offer letters and employee contracts for new employees, and track contract expiry dates for renewal. Ensure any changes in an employee’s status are adequately documented.
Track probationary periods and ensure confirmations, extensions, or terminations within agreed timescales.
Support the orientation and on-boarding of new employees, including preparing an orientation schedule and welcome package, orienting staff regarding employment conditions, registering staff for benefits schemes, and ensuring new staff have appropriate work space and resources.

Lead on the filing, follow up and recording of cases, to ensure timely outcomes.
Support the research on relevant cases and other supporting authorities/material required within the Legal office. 
Support in the carrying out of research to understand the current situation including; the prevailing challenges in accessing justice in the project sites; recommend changes and improvements, work with key influencers in the prison service and in the community to inform the design of relevant interventions to address identified gaps.
