The consultant will provide support in designing farmer training tools (including translating materials to local language), working with the local government to mobilize farmers for farmer-field days, training the farmers about RCC, supporting the farmers to open bank account with the Bank, follow up with the farmers post-implementation. This will include the following activities:

Provide... inputs on farmer training materials
Translate the training materials to local language
Mobilize farmers across two counties for focus group discussions
Conducting location level training for the farmers about RCC, using different gender appropriate approaches
Liaise with the two Banks to support the farmers in opening bank accounts
Support the farmers to apply for loans, and help them in acquiring inputs from local agro-dealers
Conduct qualitative interviews on gender learning approaches
Support endline data collection activities

Qualifications:
Qualifications and skills required include:

Masters’ degree in Applied Economics, Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, or related field
Demonstrated professional experience coordinating farmer training and conducting qualitative surveys.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent writing skills
Experience in the area of climate risk management.
Experience in working in sub-Saharan Africa

Preferred Qualifications:

Fluency in Swahili language

Scope of work
Under this agreement, the consultant will provide IFPRI with the following:

A sampling framework for farmers, intermediaries, and processors for the potatoes value chain in Kenya. The total sample (including these three nodes of the value chain) will be 700 interviews (500 farmers, 150 middlemen and 50 processors).
A plan and timeline for the collection of the primary... survey-based data. IFPRI will provide a survey questionnaire and the consultant will provide the translation to local language, tablets to collect the survey based on the program supplied by IFPRI and feedback to improve these questionnaires; and support with local IRB application process.
Submission of 3 datasets for the 700 interviews (one dataset each for the farmers, intermediaries, and processors) and final report with summary tables and sampling design methodology and sample size calculation.

Required qualifications of the consultant / survey team leader

At least five years of professional experiences in implementing surveys.
Experience in building trust and good relations with interviewees and communities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience in the agricultural sector of Kenya.
