As a member of the Girl Capital Africa Senior Management Team (SMT)


Take full and collective accountability for the development and implementation of Girl Capital priorities and plans, ensuring they are aligned to the Girl Capital strategy
As a subject-matter expert in SRHR/child marriage or protection, provide up-to-date, professional advice to the Africa... Leadership Team, CIFF Executive Team and CIFF Board on related issues, to support the development of strategies, policies and initiatives.
Take the lead on corporate, cross-cutting initiatives and projects, as required by the Director & Pillar Lead - Girl Capital, Africa
Provide compelling, consistent and united leadership which creates clarity for all staff in the Girl Capital pillar and builds a sense of shared accountability for its success and that of the organisation.
Develop and maintain excellent external relationships within the sector specialism, acting at all times as a corporate ambassador for CIFF, to help build the organisation’s reputation and profile as a professional, visionary and collaborative philanthropy.
Deputise for the  Director & Pillar Lead - Girl Capital, Africa, as required.


Strategy & planning


Build a pipeline of innovative, evidence-based and/or evidence-generating investments that further the aims and ambitions of Girl Capital Africa in transforming the design, delivery and support of girls’ agency  in CIFF Africa priority geographies
Proactively seek out investment opportunities that integrate Girl Capital with other CIFF Africa pillar priorities, in support of shared higher-level outcomes
Collaborate with broader CIFF teams to identify intersectional, sustainable approaches to delivering investments including but not limited to gender transformation and DEI
Take a leadership role in coordinating the Girl Capital annual business planning process, identifying short, medium and long-term ambitions, and distilling these into annual objectives, key results and investment pipelines.


 Programme development, delivery & performance


 Oversee both the development of successful investment proposals and implementation of high- impact programmes by a team of Girl Capital Managers and Analysts, ensuring the quality, timeliness and strategic alignment of their work to strategic priorities and objectives.
Allocate and monitor achievement of individual and team performance targets including but not limited to, new investment design, programme management (forecasting accuracy and disbursements), investment performance, personal development and progression.
Conduct regular reviews of investment proposals under development and programmes in delivery, to monitor compliance with agreed due diligence and risk management protocols, ensuring the interests and reputation of the Foundation are appropriately and proportionately protected.  Intervene to take corrective action where necessary.
Ensure all investment proposals and programmes are underpinned by appropriate monitoring and evaluation processes and procedures, in accordance with the frameworks and guidance of the EME Team, to enable the development of rigorous evidence and analysis that supports CIFF’s advocacy, scaling-up and mainstreaming agendas.
As a recognised subject-matter expert, provide casework advice, specialist guidance and mentoring support to colleagues (within and beyond the team) to deepen the skills, capability and professionalism of the organisation.
Seek out leveraged and co-funding to support the scale up of successful programmes in collaboration with the Co-Funding and Partnerships (For Africa By Africa) pillar team.
Identify and implement improved ways of working that increase operational effectiveness and efficiency.


 Sector knowledge and profile-building


 Actively participate in and contribute to CIFF Africa field building, thought leadership and awareness-raising
Lead the generation and consolidation of Africa Girl Capital SRHR and protection from harmful practices learning for dissemination as global goods aimed at advancing the field
Ensure that Girl Capital Africa’s SRHR work is shaped by up-to-date insights and evidence by proactively maintaining extensive external networks with experts and opinion-formers within the sector and continent.
Undertake or commission sector-relevant research and analysis to inform  the effective development, delivery and evaluation of programmes and initiatives.


Stakeholder and partner management


Build and nurture strategic and mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders and partners including governments and line ministries, co-funders, regional bodies to support the achievement of Africa Girl Capital as well as broader CIFF Africa goals.
Advise and support more junior colleagues in identifying, negotiating with and managing appropriate programme partners (as required), to enable CIFF to maximise its philanthropic impact through effective collaboration.
Proactively contribute to growing CIFF Africa’s strategic grantee and partner base with a view to growing the proportion of local grantees within the portfolio


Leadership of the team


Provide inspiring and motivational leadership that role models CIFF’s values and behaviours and empowers and enables staff to deliver excellence.
As a member of the CIFF Africa Operations Leadership Team: provide high level programmatic updates; participate in troubleshooting Africa-wide portfolio challenges; contribute to decision making on improved ways of working, staff welfare and boosting and maintaining morale.

This role reports to the Executive Director, People & Culture and will work alongside the small team of HR business partner colleagues across CIFF. Support to this role is provided by an HR Assistant, HR Business Partnering, who has a dotted line into this role.

HR Leadership:


Play an active role, as a senior member of the HR team, in shaping CIFF’s People... Strategy
Be accountable for adapting as needed and driving the execution of the People Strategy for Africa and for the global function this role also supports.
Play a key role in positioning the HR team as true strategic partners to the business, aligning closely to the business sectors, and proactively working to understand their needs, anticipating the people implications and proactively planning and being one step ahead of providing the required support.
Work closely with the ED People and Culture in building a Centre of Excellence for HR Business Partnering at CIFF, keeping abreast of best practice developments in the HR field and how they can be applied to the work the team does to enhance the value add delivered both internally and externally.
Work collaboratively with other internal teams to develop and implement relevant risk management protocols, plans and frameworks, keeping CIFF staff at the centre.
Inspire and mentor HR colleagues both to deliver exceptional performance for CIFF, and to maximise their personal potential.

HR Business Partnering


As a senior member of the team, provide up-to-date, professional advice to the EDs (Africa and one other global function), and Directors in the teams, to support the development of people strategies, policies, and initiatives in line with the overall CIFF People Strategy.
Lead on talent management for their functions, proactively driving discussions around gaps in capability and ways to upskill teams.
Work with the Africa leadership team and other dedicated sector leads to ensure that the people strategy is implemented and adapted based on business requirements.
Lead on planning for business continuity by working closely with the leadership on second line readiness for key roles. 
Build expertise and execution around people management practice across the business.
Manage all HR activity on behalf of the relevant business area including pay and performance review, reporting & analysis.
Maintain a strong knowledge of employment law supporting in informing policy and/or process updates.
Pro-actively use data, metrics, and evidence (including insights from internal surveys - Office Vibe and Your Say) to inform and drive decision making and change across their business areas.

 Employee Relations


Ensure that people management issues of change and growth are managed and develop workforce plans to ensure the right organizational design.
Deliver practical day to day HR policy and practice and advice that fits the business and is not ‘over engineered’.
Lead on all employee relations activity in their client groups, supporting and advising investigation and hearing leads on appropriate processes for disciplinary, grievance, or change management processes.
Work collaboratively with the Director, People, SRHR, People Operations and Global Reward and their team to ensure an effective and efficient HR service across CIFF.


Recruitment & Selection


Lead on all recruitment and selection in their sector teams – either directly at M2 (Senior Manager) grade and above, or overseeing recruitment below this grade -  ensuring that the approach to recruitment and selection supports the People Strategy’s priorities and CIFF’s purpose, and CIFF’s employer brand is built and maximised.
Ensure that a best practice end to end process, using the enhanced and rigorous recruitment process and tools is followed, keeping headhunter involvement and spend to a minimum.
Support hiring managers in designing job descriptions, hiring timelines and advertising outlets.
Lead, participate in and manage panel interviews, leading final selection decisions and making offers to candidates.


Reward


Support the Director, People, SRHR, People Operations and Global Reward and play an active role in the annual pay review cycle, contributing to development of the pay review proposals and supporting processes and be fully accountable for the pay review cycle in their sectors.
Support people managers in their client sectors through all reward processes acting as confidential advisors and experts to ensure CIFF’s approach to reward is applied consistently and fairly across the foundation.
Retain a strong awareness of pay across sector teams identifying changes, particularly in providing insights local to Africa.
Identify areas of employment law change or requirements to inform reward policy and / or process updates.


Learning and Development


Support the Global Head of L&D to develop and embed a first-class L&D strategy.
Work collaboratively with the Learning & Development team in creating a coaching culture through the roll out of coaching skills across the foundation and working with the Executive Team and Directors to ensure they are embedded and sustained.

Main purpose of the role
The DTS Team is responsible for effective management of CIFF’s business applications as well as developing and adapting systems and processes to continually be more efficient, effective and relevant. The team own and manage the selection, implementation and development of new business systems and processes. They utilise effective project and change management methodology... and controls to drive the evolution of data management within CIFF.
The Analyst – Business Intelligence role will report to Product Manager and work with the DTS team, programme teams and other global functions, to create data-driven solutions leveraging the Microsoft suite (i.e., Power BI, Azure, Power Platforms). The role will lead data storytelling within CIFF, transforming raw, often complex data into interactive dashboards and reports that provide clear, actionable insights and enable informed decision-making.
The role will lead the efforts to design and develop data models that effectively support business requirements; and ensuring dashboards and reports contain accurate and reliable data.

Main purpose of the role

The Chief of Staff, Africa provides operational and strategic... support to the Executive Director (ED), Africa, the Africa Pillar Leads, the Africa Leadership Team (ALT) and the Africa team as a whole.

Providing direct support to the ED, Africa

Prioritise the ED’s responsibilities with a strategic lens to ensure the effective management of the ED’s time, looking at the short and long-term travel calendar, evaluating opportunities and determining appropriate fit with priorities to ensure the ED is effective in their leadership of the Africa team and in their board roles externally.
Prioritise, manage, and steer the flow of information and insights to the ED, Africa.

With the support of the EA to the ED, Africa, manage the end-to-end PIC process for the Africa team including yearly planner of IM’s and Strategies, scheduling pipeline committee slots, writing the PIC agenda, managing ED’s review time, managing dispatch of final documents.

Oversee high-quality, strategic briefs, talking points, presentations, event materials and briefings ahead of external engagement and events for the ED and where relevant, the CEO.
Contribute to the development and promotion of high-quality thought leadership, PR and marketing materials to raise awareness about CIFF’s work in Africa ensuring alignment with the Foundation’s communications and advocacy strategies.

Main purpose of the role
As a recognized leader in your field, to contribute to the development of cutting edge and evidence-based strategies and plans that ensure CIFF’s work across the Girl Capital sector achieves transformational and lasting change; and to develop and manage a high quality portfolio of investment proposals and active programmes, that contribute to the delivery of the Girl... Capital pillar of the CIFF Africa strategy and meet the corporate objectives of the CIFF Board.
This role will serve as a key education expert on the CIFF Africa team, guiding CIFF’s Girl Capital Africa strategy goal of keeping all adolescent girls in school and learning, as well as contributing towards the related Girl Capital Africa strategy goals relating to transition to the workforce, expanding youth friendly SRHR, shifting negative social norms, and driving accountability for girls’ outcomes. Specific domains will include (but are not limited to):

Robust portfolio management – designing and managing a growing and complex portfolio
Working to improve the impact of government efforts in Africa on Girl Capital programming, finding solutions to address the gaps and bottlenecks in the system, with a focus on where the government systems fail.
Understanding political economy of girls’ education and related sectors in CIFF Africa focus countries

Programme development, delivery & performance

Girls enroll and complete secondary school leading to reducing gender gap in secondary schools
Girls have life skills to make informed choices about their future including sexual and reproductive health, age of marriage and overcoming gender-based socio-cultural barriers around education and employment.
Social norms change to shift perceptions and behaviours of parents and societies towards girls and women


Personally manage a portfolio of live programmes with a value c. $30M of and an active pipeline of potential investments of c. $25M, in accordance with the sector priorities and plan.
Conduct regular reviews of the progress and performance of programmes under delivery to identify problems and delays, and work with partners to develop effective solutions (escalating to more senior colleagues for support and intervention, where required).
Against key corporate and sector team indicators and targets, monitor and report internally on the performance of assigned caseload.
Apply agreed due diligence and risk management protocols appropriately throughout the development and delivery of proposals and programmes, to ensure the interests and reputation of the Foundation are protected.
Conduct structured feasibility analysis on investment proposals, using an appropriate range of methodologies and techniques, to ensure they are based on logical and robust assumptions, which can withstand scrutiny from the ET and CIFF Board.
With the advice and guidance of the Girl Capital Africa Evidence, Measurement and Evaluation (EME) Business Partner, identify and embed appropriate monitoring and evaluation processes to all proposals and programmes.
Work as part of the Girl Capital team, alongside other pillars within the wider Africa team and senior colleagues, to shape and implement plans for scaling up, replicating or leveraging additional support for successful programmes and initiatives, in accordance with Foundation priorities.
Identify opportunities and options for improving processes, procedures and programme management approaches within (and beyond) the team, to support increased organisational efficiency and effectiveness.
Integrate investment approaches with the goals of the Girl Capital Africa Team, seeking opportunities to collaborate and leverage broader portfolio including improving the health and nutrition of women and children as well as, reducing the prevalence of trafficking, reducing gender violence and discrimination and so much more.

Sector knowledge and profile-building

Keep abreast of developments within the education, wider gender empowerment, and international development sectors, establishing appropriate information gathering networks and channels to deepen professional knowledge and skills.
As required, contribute to the development of thought leadership, PR, marketing and advocacy materials, to support CIFF’s ambitions to scale-up, mainstream and leverage additional support for its initiatives.
Develop mutually beneficial, peer-level relationships with priority country governments, NGOs, other foundations, local civil society and beneficiary-led organisations.

Stakeholder and partner management

Conduct rigorous research and evaluation of potential partners, using agreed corporate protocols and techniques, to assess their suitability and credentials for collaborating on CIFF initiatives.
Apply CIFF’s agreed account management disciplines and approaches in all dealings with programme partners and stakeholders, to ensure productive and professional relationships are maintained in a coordinated and strategic manner.
Working alongside senior colleagues, help to develop strategic partnerships to support adoption, replication, co-funding or scaling-up of CIFF programmes.

Requirements
Skills & experience

Experience working in the public education system in Kenya and/or other CIFF Africa focus countries (Ethiopia, Nigeria, Burkina Faso) and strong understanding of education-related data and trends.
Experience working within government systems and/or experience influencing the policies of government agencies, private sector organizations or donor organisations
Experience designing initiatives that improve education outcomes (especially attendance, retention, learning for children at the system level.
Demonstrable experience in analysis and due diligence; policy, planning and programme delivery, including field experience, all within the development sector
Knowledge of the evidence bases pertaining to programme design and implementation, and belief in the importance of evidence-based decision making

The primary purpose of the role
The Team Assistant, Africa will provide comprehensive and proactive support to the Africa Leadership Team, working alongside the Executive Assistant, Africa and the larger Africa team. This support will include diary management for the Africa Directors, travel and event planning and document/information management. The position requires proficiency with Microsoft... Role’s responsibilities

Manage the calendar of the Africa Directors, schedule appointments and coordinate internal and external meetings.
Support the Africa team with event planning (external and select internal events), including external virtual events, team meetings and offsites.
Arrange travel for Africa Directors. Work with CIFF travel agents to organise flights, hotels, cars and visas. Occasionally, this will extend to support the wider Kenya office with travel requirements and may include organisation of group travel for the team.
Work alongside the Executive Assistant, Africa to manage the fortnightly Africa Operational Leadership meeting agendas, drafting of minutes/action plans and any follow-up actions.
Depending on the Africa teams supported, assist with note taking in team meetings and follow up on agreed actions; in some instances, assist in liaising with grantees for meeting attendance and follow up on agreed actions.
General administrative duties, including management and support for the central administrative online tools for the team, such as Fluxx, budget, pipeline, portfolio, and HR tools.
Support the Directors in the timely processing of expenses on Certify and follow up with finance where required.
Assist the Head of Finance, Africa in administrative finance tasks relating to the Africa team e.g. email reminders to the Africa team on disbursements and update of Fluxx.
Assist the Head of Human Resources, Africa in administrative tasks relating to the Africa team e.g. scheduling of interviews, onboarding preparation, and scheduling team meetings.
General administrative duties including meeting room set ups, business card inputs and working with other Executive Assistants to support the smooth running of the Kenya office.
