JOB PURPOSE
The Fellowship seeks to enhance diversity of representation in the field of international justice by offering an opportunity to young African professionals (early to mid-career practitioners and scholars) based in Africa to work on international justice issues and mechanisms. Fellows benefit from knowledge, skills and experience transfer, practical exposure to international justice... spaces and forums, and the opportunity to engage and network with a variety of relevant actors and stakeholders in the international justice movement. Fellows also participate in discrete research, legal analysis, policy discourse and campaigning projects relating to international justice.
ABOUT YOU
As the International Justice in Africa Fellow, you will be fluent in written and spoken English, with good interpersonal and communication skills enabling you to work well in a team environment. You will also have the ability to accurately analyse human rights issues.  
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with research activities on accountability for crimes under international law in Africa and elsewhere through desk research and drafting.
Assist with monitoring and analysing international and regional developments on international justice issues.
Assist with developing advocacy positions and strategies on identified priorities relating to international justice.
Participate and contribute to relevant internal and external policy discussions pertaining to international justice issues and mechanisms

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Good knowledge of and experience in the application of international law, including international human rights law, humanitarian law and international criminal law is essential.
Ability to analyse accurately legal issues and apply legal reasoning in pursuit of developing a strategic response.
Ability to gather and process human rights-related information/related.
Ability to write clearly and concisely (without the need for significant editorial revision) and proof-read research, campaign and advocacy materials.
Outstanding written and verbal English is essential. Fluency in written and spoken French is desirable.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

To design, manage and evaluate strategic campaign outcomes, theory of change and actions taken to deliver Amnesty International Kenya’s overall commitment to expanding freedoms of expression, association, assembly and active citizenship
To provide thought-leadership on freedoms and citizenship rights, initiate research ideas, inform mass and new media opportunities and... spaces
To lead movement-building programs that can attract considerable number of supporters and members, alliances, and funding for human rights work in Kenya

Engage and support other Amnesty initiatives nationally, regionally and globally in order to build comparative understanding and synergies across the Amnesty movement.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

At least a first degree in law, criminal justice, human rights or another appropriate discipline and an Advocate of the High Court.
At least 10 years relevant experience in coordinating human rights programmes, campaigns and or legal case flow management.
At least 5 years relevant experience in managing staff, budgets or other change management;
Demonstrated ability to analyze injustice and rights violations and to develop short and long-term outcome-based strategies that achieve human rights impact and change;
Demonstrated experience of influencing civic organisations, social movements leaders and mid-level government officials, policy makers and law enforcement officials.
Demonstrated fundraising, budget and strategy management competency as well as an ability to review/adapt them to fast changing political situations, exercising and promoting creative thinking;
A confident public communicator with good analytical, presentation and editorial digital skills;
Team leadership, outstanding social and intercultural skills and proven ability to multi-task and work to deadlines, sometimes under pressure and in challenging situations.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Experience of coordinating protection for witnesses and survivors of human rights violations especially in responding to exclusion, discrimination, stigma and conflict
Demonstrated experience of fundraising and budget-management upwards of Kshs ten million or more
Evidence of coordinating research and documentation for policy influence.
Experience of independently designing and delivering impactful and fully integrated campaigns through the complete campaign lifecycle (issue identification, strategy development, campaign delivery, monitoring, campaign exit and impact assessment)
Experience of leading several teams simultaneously and contributing to setting priorities, motivating oneself and others, and resolving team conflicts.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

A degree in social sciences, management, law or another appropriate discipline
At least 3 years’ experience of monitoring, evaluation, and learning

JOB PURPOSE
Working as part of the Amnesty Tech's Security Lab, the Technologists will conduct research on surveillance technologies and help develop tools and technologies to protect human rights defenders from unlawful surveillance. 
The technologists will join at a time of expansion for the Security Lab as it grows to face the increased challenges presented by surveillance technologies to the... work of human rights defenders around the world. ABOUT YOU
You will have experience conducting research and investigations into surveillance technologies, with the ability to deal in a sensitive and understanding manner with a variety of people, as well as familiarity with risk assessment methodologies and the ability to conduct them during investigations and research projects. You will use sound judgement and initiative to solve problems and provide constructive inputs. Development knowledge (preferably in python or go) would be beneficial. 
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead research on unlawful targeted surveillance against civil society and research into the surveillance industry.  
Track surveillance companies and technical infrastructure of spyware and phishing attacks against civil society.  
Assist Human Rights Defenders with digital security and forensics analysis of their devices

Responsibilities

Support the design, scheduling, implementation, and documentation of digital rights program activities and correspondence (training, workshops, events, meetings and convenings).

JOB PURPOS
In this role you will provide support to the Finance Team in the organizational functions of Amnesty International's Nairobi Hub Office, to enable the efficient operation of the office's human rights work programme.
ABOUT YOU
As someone with experience of working in an accounts department, you will have demonstrable knowledge in accounting procedures, with a good understanding of... systems, such as Microsoft Office.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide administrative support to hub staff, particularly to the Nairobi Hub Director and Deputy Director(s) including processing invoices/expenses and making travel arrangements.
Work with co-located section administrative staff to ensure first point of contact for visitors and those wishing to connect with members of Amnesty International staff to ensure email, phone and in person queries are routed to appropriate colleagues and a professional welcome is provided.
Support the financial control of the Nairobi Hub Office's activities through the preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations and by ensuring adherence of office to all policies.
Support the Finance and Office Manager in ensuring the cash flow of the office is managed to ensure sufficient liquid reserves and minimal exchange rate risk, in conjunction with the IS London Finance team.
Perform timely and efficient processing of expense claims, invoices, travel advances and cash payments, via use of automated systems where possible.
Provide basic support for IT systems and user support including connecting to printers, password recovery etc.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Experience in an administrative office role; excellent multi-tasking and time management skills.
Experience of dealing with suppliers, officers within government administration functions and external contacts; ideally will have maintained a relevant local network.
Experience of monitoring budgets and an ability to identify budget problems and communicate to the relevant staff.
Experience of supporting relocating international staff in settling into new location, providing immigration liaison support, organizing accommodation etc.
